Believed lost for over a decade, the most legendary Jeep in American surf history has resurfaced. Revered by professional surfers, photographed by thousands, and remembered by an entire generation, this 1977 Jeep CJ7 was the soul of Inlet Charlys Surf Shop in New Smyrna Beach, Florida the East Coasts most iconic surf destination.

This hand-painted Jeep was parked daily outside the shop and functioned as a rolling billboard for CB Surfboards, which today fetch prices of $10,000+. Surf legends including Kelly Slater, the Hobgood brothers, Cory Lopez, and Frieda Zamba all rode in this Jeep en route to national competitions. There has never been and will never be another vehicle that embodies the spirit of American surf and skate culture so completely.

From Surf Royalty to Cartel Shadows

After Charlys shop was sold, the Jeep was acquired by a direct associate of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, a Sinaloa Cartel operative. It was immediately transported to Mexico to avoid DEA seizure and remained hidden for over 10 years in a secured garage just two miles from the U.S. border in Tecate, Baja California one of the most heavily surveilled smuggling zones in North America.

There, the Jeep became a legend in cartel circles admired, protected, and instantly recognized. In fact, El Chapos own son spotted the Jeep while visiting the town to organize his men. He was so enamored by its presence that he made multiple offers first in cash, and then with an outrageous offer of hundreds of kilos in product plus cash but I turned him down every time. At the time, I was already making more money than I could spend. The Jeep was priceless. Not even El Chapos son could buy it.

He begged to take it to Sinaloa to showcase it as his prized possession, promising to keep it in a climate-controlled facility. He even mentioned speaking directly to his father to come up with a price I couldnt refuse. But I refused anyway because this Jeep simply wasnt for sale.

Now, however, Im newly married, working to secure a home for my wife, and for the first time ever, Im reluctantly letting this Jeep go but only for $120,000 cash, and only to the right buyer.
