Classic Car Overview

1977 Datsun 280Z turbo for sale. Motorcar Classics is pleased to offer this impressive 280Z 5-speed manual with a rebuilt and turbocharged 3.0L L28 inline-six, Dyno tuned to around 400hp and 388 torque at 15psi boost pressure. Additional more recent modifications include OD Performance swapping out the ECU to a Haltech Elite 2500 and doing a custom Raychem, Tezfel, Milspec wiring harness. 94766 miles are shown, however true miles are unknown and believed to be low since the engine was rebuilt. This example spent much of its life in Orange, California. The car is finished in Datsun Red over a black interior, and power is from a turbocharged 3.0-liter L28 inline-six that was built by Rebello Racing and is paired with a five-speed manual transmission from a Z32 300ZX as well as a rebuilt 3.70:1 R200 limited-slip differential. Other modifications include carbon fiber bumpers, adjustable suspension components, four-wheel disc brakes, and more. The body was finished in Datsun Red (110) from the factory, and the seller notes evidence of repairs and paintwork on the lower rear valance as well as several dings and chips. If you are looking for a perfect showcar Datsun this is not the car for you. Modifications include JDM fender mirrors, a carbon fiber front valance and bumpers from Motorsport Auto, and a dark window tint as well as clear side marker lenses, LED turn indicator bulbs, and taillight bezel interior seals. Rota RB 16 wheels wear 245/45 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires. The car has been lowered on DP Racing coilovers and Tokiko Illumina adjustable shocks, and sway bars and strut tower braces from Motorsport Auto have also been installed. The wheel arches have been rolled, though the seller notes slight rubbing at full steering lock. Brake upgrades include four-piston Toyota calipers up front, a rear disc conversion, braided stainless lines, and new Hawk HPS pads. An alignment and corner balancing were performed by Jeff Winter of Rallye Sport in Westminster, Colorado. The two-place cabin is trimmed in black vinyl and features a wood-rimmed Momo Heritage steering wheel, a billet shift knob, and a functioning period radio and stock power antenna and clock. The dome and map lights have been retrofitted with LED bulbs, and air conditioning equipment has been removed forward of the firewall though the controls and evaporator remain in place. Cracks are visible in the center of the dash. The rear cargo area contains a collapsible spare wheel, a compressed air tire filler, and a stock jack and tool kit. Instruments include an A-pillar boost gauge, a programmable Speedhut tachometer, and a stock speedometer with a five-digit odometer reading 94k miles. A programmable Haltech ECU and boost control knob are mounted below the steering column, and a Haltech wiring harness includes provisions for additional engine management and monitoring sensors. The L28 inline-six was rebuilt with 3.0 liters of displacement, JE 8.0:1 pistons, H-beam connecting rods, a Schneider camshaft, and a ported P90 cylinder head by Rebello Racing of Antioch, California. A Borg Warner EFR 7670 turbocharger was also fitted, and a July 2019 dyno test indicated peak output of 337 horsepower at the rear wheels with 15psi of boost. Other details of build include the following: ARP hardware, Treadstone Performance air-to-air intercooler, Custom intercooler mounts and 2.5 stainless steel piping, Ceramic-coated, machined, port-matched, and shaved N42 intake and L28 exhaust manifold, Polished and port-matched TWM throttle body, Injector Dynamics 1050X injectors and Pallnet fuel rail, Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Radium Engineering fuel pulse damper, Deatschwerks ML350 fuel pump, Cast aluminum baffled oil pan, Magnecor spark plug wires, LS1 coil packs, Motorsports Auto polished aluminum radiator with custom dual-pass modification, 16 2400-cfm electric fan and custom shroud, CSR Performance electric water pump, 3 stainless exhaust pipes with resonator and MagnaFlow muffler.Power is sent through an ACT clutch with a Stage 3 pressure plate to a replacement 300ZX Twin Turbo five-speed manual transmission with a Z1 Motorsports short-throw shifter. A custom driveshaft with Spicer 1310 U-joints connects to a later R200 differential featuring a 3.70:1 final-drive ratio and custom half-shafts. The modified drivetrain was installed by Ignite Performance in Arvada, Colorado, and approximately 1k miles have been driven since. Do not miss this opportunity to own this one-of-a-kind Z car.
