Classic Car Overview

1977 was a milestone year in Corvette history. On March 15th of that year, Chevrolet General Manager Robert Lund personally drove the 500,000th Corvette off the assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It had taken 15 years to build the first 250,000, and only 8 more to double that number, which tells you everything about how the Corvettes popularity had grown through the 1970s. It was also the final year for the vertical rear window that had become a signature of the C3 generation, and the last year the Stingray script appeared on the fenders before being replaced by the traditional crossed-flags emblem for 1978. Road and Track magazine tested a 1977 Corvette through their slalom course that year and it ran faster than a Porsche Turbo Carrera. This one is finished in Corvette Orange with dark brown leather and matching T-tops, all original numbers matching, with original paint still on the car, and stored inside every winter.

Under the hood is the 350 cubic inch V8 backed by the three speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic. The 350 in 1977 produced 180 horsepower and the kind of low-speed torque that makes the car genuinely enjoyable to drive at any speed. The drivetrain received a full service at Dynamic Repair in 2016 representing $6,000 in work, and new tires were fitted in 2024, which means this car is as sorted and ready to drive as a numbers-matching C3 can be. Factory air conditioning, powered windows, and an AM/FM radio round out a well-equipped car that was optioned correctly from the beginning.

Inside, the dark brown leather interior is clean and original, matching the warm, rich tone of the Corvette Orange exterior in a way that very few color combinations on the C3 manage. The T-tops are present and give the car the open-air character the C3 was always best at. 1977 was also the first year leather seats came as a standard feature on the Corvette, no extra charge required, which is reflected in how well this cabin has held together over the decades.

Numbers-matching C3 Corvettes with original paint and documented winter storage are becoming increasingly hard to find as the years go on. Most have been repainted, modified, or simply not cared for with the level of attention this one has received. An orange Corvette with brown leather from the year Chevrolet hit half a million units produced is a specific and well-documented piece of Corvette history.
