1977 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe For consignment, a C3 version from 1977 with a modern V8 engine under the hood, some recent service completed, a custom interior and a VERY custom look to the back end with an Ecklers Corvette hatchback installation. Overall fair condition on the exterior and interior, a favorite design version of this writer with all rounded edges and a beautiful profile and stance. Exterior Bathed in a tutone colorway of light and medium blue metallics, there are areas on the surface of this car that show cracking and chipping of the paint particularly at the pointed leading edge of the neoprene nose, otherwise the paint is nice and smooth. The light blue covers the uppers as well as the hood and...wait for it....custom Ecklers hatchback. The medium blue takes over down low, sweeping across the rockers and highlighting the wheel lip arches. Within this field, just in front of the rear tires is a bit of an Easter egg in the form of the Hot Wheel Treasure Hunt logo in a third shade of blue. This medium blue is also used to highlight the T-tops, hood peaks, A pillars, and greenhouse glass. The gaps are slightly inconsistent, and this car sports a removable T top with medium blue highlighting around the blue tinted glass. Just behind the front wheels the body flares into the fender nicely and moves upward to form the curved fender that melts into the hood area, which also houses the hidden headlights. Bringing up the rear, we are in custom heaven with an expertly grafted in hatchback design from Ecklers Corvette. This hatch sports dual electric latches and we note a frenched in power antenna on the passengers rear quarter panel. Just below are the round taillights in a body matching curved bumper. 15-inch deep dish Chevrolet rally wheels are all around and are wrapped in staggered width blackwall rubber. Interior Peering through the removable t top we see oyster colored, (ivory), custom upholstery covering the high back buckets with velour broadcloth inserts and leather striping. Some rips and general overall wear are noted for the seats. These are fronted by an angled dash that has a center console extension which houses several gauges in the center just above the shift lever. An aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette stereo is inserted here as well. Deeply embedded circular gauges are in front of the driver as well as the original steering wheel. Oyster gray carpet covers the floors and is in generally good condition but not without some staining and loose material. This carpeting continues into the custom hatch area where we note the black storage bags for the T-tops. On the passengers side no glove box but dual storage pouches are conveniently located in the dash. Oyster gray vinyl molded and contoured door panels wrap up our tour and display with some cracking to the gray vinyl but show as otherwise clean with their black trimming and chrome spears. Drivetrain A flip of the forward hinged hood reveals a modern 5.7 liter LS1 V8 lurking between the curvaceous fenders. This mighty modern mill is fed by EFI and our consignor notes that the cylinder heads have been rebuilt with new valves in the last 1,000 miles. Bolted to the back is a TH350 3-speed automatic that sends power back to a 3.08 rear axle to spin the tires. A very clean engine bay is noted with a new aluminum radiator and dual electric cooling fans. Undercarriage Mostly clean and nice underneath with good flooring and a solid frame showing with some road dirt, patina, and surface rust. Full on custom dual exhaust sans catalytic converters snakes its way rearward from the headers ending in a pair of Flowmaster mufflers. Independent coil sprung suspension is on the front and an independent suspension with a frame anchored differential and a transverse leaf spring is on the rear. Power disc brakes adorn all 4 corners for the whoa factor. Drive-Ability This car starts quickly and runs very nicely. It is a nice comfortable interior you slip into and with a flick of the shifter, we are off and running. Nice handling, great acceleration and overall power. It was a nice day and we took the roof panels out and enjoyed the airflow. We noticed the AC wasnt working and the drivers power window did not go down even though there is a new switch and regulator, but all other functions worked just fine. With its lovely lines, T top, upgraded EFI fed drivetrain and required maintenance performed this car is a good driver. The interior condition prevents this car from being a true show stopper, however, certainly is not a deal breaker.
