Dare to Be Different - 1968 Chevy Impala SS 427

A viable alternative that's still daring and different, the 1968 Chevy Impala SS 427. SS 427 Impalas are very distinctive and unique. Sales were modest, so finding an Impala SS 427, especially a convertible, could be a little challenging.

Classic Car Overview

Selling my baby, time to let someone else finish my project. I'm getting older and decided to sell the truck. The truck has been professionally appraised for everyones peace of mind ( see below ). Odometer reads 20k miles but has rolled over. I would guess 120k total miles but only 80k miles on the rebuilt engine. The engine was rebuilt at 41k miles, with documentation. The Transmission was rebuilt in 2016, with documentation. For the past 21 years I've put 100 miles or less per year on the truck as it was just used to plow the driveway and taken to get gas. I have all the original manuals and the receipt when I purchased the truck as well as the original window options sticker. All documentation of work done with receipts. Asking $20,500 or best offer. Serious offers will only be considered. if you have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks for looking!

Vehicle make and year: 1977 Chevrolet Silverado ¾-ton 4X4
VIN: CKR247F378807
Vehicle appraised at: Naches, Washington

On June 1, 2021, I evaluated the vehicle described above for the purpose of providing an estimation of the vehicle’s cash value on that day. My evaluation included the vehicle’s exterior, interior, chassis, and engine compartment, and is based on authenticity, preservation/restoration, maintenance, and/or replacement costs.

Special features:

400-cu.in. V-8 engine, three-speed automatic turbo transmission, four-wheel drive, power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, air conditioning (from factory), AM/FM/CD, sliding rear window, dual fuel tanks, running boards, lockable front hubs, snow-plow mount with hydraulic blade control, bed-mounted tool box, electric trailer brake controls.

Engine/Engine Compartment
The engine and engine compartment appeared in very good conditioning, showing only minor road grime and dust from having been regularly driven, but no fluid leaks or seepage of any kind. Belts and hoses appeared in very good condition, and plumbing and wiring was well-routed and properly secured. The engine started easily and idled smoothly, with no smoke or unusual noises. The engine had been rebuilt and was equipped with after-market cast aluminum valve covers. The truck as originally equipped with air conditioning but most of the A/C system had been removed.

The frame and suspension appeared clean and well maintained. There were no leaks or seepage from the automatic transmission, which had been rebuilt, or from the transfer case. The exhaust system was upgraded to 2 ½-in.tubing and was in very good condition. The wheels were powder coated alloys in good condition. Tires were oversize 33X12.50 R 16.5 LT radials which showed adequate tread depth, and no unusual or irregular wear patterns. The chassis was equipped with new shock absorbers, chrome front differential cover, cast aluminum rear differential cover, and a 2-in. body lift. Overall, the chassis appeared in good condition and fully serviceable.

The interior had been completely refurbished and appeared in very good condition. The seat had been reupholstered with patterned fabric on seating surfaces and complementing single-color skirts, all very lightly used, showing no evidence of wear or damage of any kind. A new headliner, door panels, and plush-cut carpet had also been installed. The steering column, gauge cluster, interior trim, knobs, and handles were in very good condition, and a new after-market wood-rimmed steering wheel had been installed. The pickup was equipped with an after-market AM/FM/CD player, and the interior courtesy lighting was upgraded to LED.

The vehicle’s exterior appeared in very good condition. The body had been repainted in a base-coat, clear-coat finish which showed excellent gloss and reflectivity, and no evidence of oxidation or deterioration. Fit of the body panels was very good, and there was no visible evidence of rust or other damage. The grill was a custom after-market alloy unit. All glass was tinted, and appeared in very good condition with no scratches, chips, or dings. The interior of the bed featured a protective spray-on coating as well as a thick rubber mat on the bed floor, and a painted diamond-plate tool box, all in good condition. The body was equipped with after-market bolt-on fender flairs at all four wheels and mud flaps in the rear, all in very good condition. The front snow-plow mount was also in good condition. The blade had been removed but the system is fully functional and will go with the truck, owner said. Front and rear bumpers are painted and in very good condition, and after-market LED brake lights have been installed on top of the rear bumper.

Summary Comments:

This is a well-optioned heavy-duty pickup which has been comprehensively restored and refurbished, cosmetically and mechanically, and is also equipped with a fully functional snow plow, which adds to its utility and value. Owner has maintained a thick folder with extensive documentation, including receipts, for parts and work done on the truck during the time he has owned it.

After careful evaluation of this vehicle based on my expertise and experience, and after consulting a number of valuation sources in print and online, and after consulting with other professional appraisers and automotive experts when necessary, I appraise (estimate) this vehicle as having a cash value of $20,500.
