VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

A beautiful, well kept, well preserved MGB with 81,000 original miles (1,700 per year). More than likely purchased by someone as a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th car and garaged and babied since new.

Excellent rust free floor/chassis, excellent inner sills, rockers, and trunk floor. And excellent body with incredibly good ORIGINAL paint....no damage, no filler, no dents, no overspray, and no rust. And it shines almost like brand new.

Our test: 160-170 psi compression in every cylinder, 70-80 psi oil pressure, no smoke, smooth running. Excellent gearbox and clutch, same with front end and brakes.

Now, it ran well BUT for the relatively modest cost, time, and effort, we have dramatically improved the car by fitting a new alloy intake manifold, new 32/36 DGV Weber carb with electric choke, and a new set of tubular racing headers which offers a substantial improvement in performance. Really flies now. Will be easier to start and probably get better fuel economy.

Top appears to be new as do the seats and carpets. In fact the entire interior looks incredibly good considering, after all, this IS a nearly fifty year old sports car.

Tires are 185/70 and appear to be new, engine and trunk compartments are very clean. And wiring looks very good, not cut up and patched (as are all too many older cars). Has a working stereo with premium JBL speakers, spare wheel, jack and lug wrench.

It appears that (as I was told) the last owner had recently spent a lot of money on this car, top, interior, tires, etc. and for some reason, had to sell it (to us). A dandy little Summer sports car.

NOW.................one can also look at this car as a starting point. And have us provide additional preparation and improvements. Such as: we can paint the bumpers to match the exterior color (a huge improvement at modest cost) OR convert the car to chrome bumpers and grille, we can lower it to the pre 1975 ride height, eliminate the sidelights (and blend in the paint), install Minilite alloy wheels or convert to wire wheels, the list is sort of endless. Wood dashboard? Modern digital stereo? Dye the interior in camel or tan? Supercharger kit, 5 speed trans, rear disc brakes? A buyer's choice. But for now, this car is offered pretty much as it left the factory. An over near fifty years, it doesn't seem to have really aged much.

(note: photos should be up very soon: we spent a day and a half wet sanding and buffing the entire exterior of the car, matched the paint and painted the front and rear bumpers (using a special prep material allowing the paint on the rubber without cracking).....okay, NOT a chrome bumper conversion but looking far better than the average rubber bumper MGB AND WE ALSO installed an excellent set of light alloy wheels)
