Ford’s first-generation off-roader has gone from cult classic to mainstream collector.
The Dodge Li'l Red Express set a standard on how to make a great performance truck. All Dodge Li'l Red Express trucks came from the factory painted in Bright Canyon Red in 1978 and Medium Canyon Red in 1979. Every Li'l Red Express was a regular cab Adventurer with a stepside bed.
Classic Car Overview
The truck is finished in white, and under current ownership the steel-framed flatbed with wood slats was constructed and fitted. Rust repair performed under current ownership is said to have included replacing the cab corners, lower door skins, inner and outer fenders, and a small portion of the floor under the clutch area. A snow plow with lights was fitted by the original Ford dealership in 1976 but has since then been sandblasted and powered coated.
Black-painted 16 steel wheels are mounted with 235/85 Hankook Dynapro ATM tires, and the front axle utilizes locking hubs
The interior features a bench seat trimmed in black, with a matching black dash pad, floor liner, and door panels. A Philco push-button AM radio is mounted in the center of the dash, and Ranger identification is affixed to the glovebox door.
A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes a 100-mph speedometer surrounded by four auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 22k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added by the seller.
The carbureted 360ci FE V8 is topped with a blue-finished air cleaner and valve covers, which show corrosion. The hydraulic system for the plow runs off the engine and has been refurbished.
Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the photo gallery.
The window sticker shows delivery to Perry Automobile Company, selected factory options, and a total retail price of $7,611.34. Sales paperwork from November 8, 1975, a build sheet, and vintage Vermont maps will accompany the truck.
