VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. Classic Car Overview

Truly one of a kind Datsun 280z that will put a smile on your face every time you drive. The vehicle does have a very interesting story that explains it's amazingly well preserved condition. This beauty started out its life in Albuquerque New Mexico being delivered to its anxious yet excited original owner on May 14th, 1976 with vehicle identification number  HLS30-296149. The vehicle was enjoyed and maintained always ahead of it's schedule by the original owner from 1976 to 1983. Vehicle's service history has been documented and preserved as part of the vehicle's story. From its very first oil change dating back to May of 1976 and when the vehicle only had 794 miles, to every service after,  all documentation will be included classic Z.  In 1983 the vehicle was placed in storage because the owner had developed a physical limitation that would prevent him from enjoying his beloved vehicle. The vehicle remained in storage from 1983 to 2018, for a total of 35 years in Albuquerque New Mexico. The dry heat and indoor storage preserved the vehicle very well and kept the rust away.  Fast forwarding to February of 2018, the vehicle is transported to sunny southern California where it would receive it's "wake up procedure". This service along with other services were all performed at Precision Z Service in Canoga Park, California.

The vehicle received many services including a full fuel flush out system, which included reconditioning the fuel tank, replace all new fuel injectors with OEM parts, replace fuel pump, fuel filter, and all fuel hoses. Once the vehicle was brought back to life, a compression test was performed on all 6 cylinders. It was discovered that cylinder #3 was not holding compression,  a leak down test confirmed the results. At that point the experts at Precision Z Service removed the cylinder head and sent it to a machine shop for a full rebuild. Over a few weeks and over $8,000 later, they returned the car in perfect running condition. Along with the wake up procedure and full cylinder head rebuild, many other parts have been replaced as needed and specified by the experts at Precision Z Service such as a brand new cooper core original radiator and master and slave brake cylinders, sub-frame bushings, steering bushings, control arm bushings, and engine mount bushings.  These components all working together provide for a very solid and smooth ride.

All components of this beauty work. This includes the factory Air Condition which blows ice cold and has been serviced, lines changed, and Freon refilled. The factory radio works perfectly and includes the original factory instructions. The antenna operates as it should, the rear defroster works, all lights inside the instrument cluster and dash operate perfectly including the dash clock. If you are quite enough, you will hear it tick tok when the car is off.

Once the vehicle was brought back to it's former glory in running condition, very tasteful upgrades were done both ascetically and performance wise.  The vehicle received its stance through the use of the Eibach lowering springs and KYB shocks. Enhancing both the look and handling performance are the custom period correct wheels showing a gloss anthracite center with polished lip and wrapped in Yokohama Avid tires. To improve the handling further, a custom hand made polished engine strut bar has been added. Improving performance and sound are the custom equal length headers, Magnaflow exhaust, and a specialty  K&N high flow air filter made for the 280z. To match the polished custom strut bar, a custom polished factory original valve cover has been added and a polished oil filter cover.

Ascetic improvements on the interior include a very rare Nardi Classic wood steering wheel and wood shift knob. The Nardi steering wheel features the matching  Datsun center piece with functioning horn function and gold inner ring. Custom Datsun floor mats and Datsun metal cigarette lighter complete the extremely well preserved interior. Besides those tasteful upgrades, the rest of the interior is in excellent looking and working condition. Moving further to the outside of the vehicle, the decision was made to transform this 280z to a BRE Tribute scheme dating back to the 1970/1971 SCCA championship won by John Morton in the Datsun 240Z. Wanting to keep the vehicle all original,  including the original paint. It was decided to carefully wrap the vehicle. This process would not only work to preserve the paint but to also provide a non permanent status to the current theme of the car. However after seeing how amazing it looks, who would ever think about removing it.

Improving both looks and aerodynamics, a period correct front bumper air dam was installed along with the custom tinted clear headlight covers. Interesting fact about these headlight covers is that the mold has been broken and these parts have now become very desirable and very difficult to find, thus raising their price overnight.

Furthermore and in conclusion. We are looking at a very rare, all original, one owner car that has been brought back from its 35 year preservation in inside storage to be enjoyed by lucky car enthusiasts today. Rest assured all numbers are matching and vehicle has never been in any accidents. The vehicle is an absolute joy to drive, must see and drive to appreciate.
