1976 Citroen 2CV

Okay, we concede the point, we aren't Citroen or 2CV experts. Had a great time, years ago with a DS21 Pallas, a D Special, an DS19 wagon, and even a Maserati powered Citroen SM. But a 2CV has always had my admiration but never my ownership.

Unfortunately the last owner was a bit foggy on some specifics but this is the best I can offer to a prospective buyer: a beautiful absolutely rust free example that appears to have been restored by a 2CV expert in Quebec. Fresh engine (have receipts for near $7,000) but not sure if it is the original 435cc or a later 602cc engine. Either way, flat two cylinder, air cooled, and somewhere between 24hp (the 435), 35hp (602) or 29hp (as represented to me by the last owner). Either way, it just smoothly sails along with a top speed somewhere around 60mph. Or, in 'metric' around 100 kms.

Body is excellent, floors are perfect, paint (in a deep gray) is beautiful, all new interior, fabric top, wiring, electrics, trim, rust free trunk floor, it is fairly close to looking 'as new.' And starts instantly, runs very well, effortless shifting (4 speed with overdrive top gear), incredibly good ride, effortless shifing, adorable folding side windows, inertial reel belts, twin circuit brakes, electric cooling fan for hot weather 'round town driving, and 125-15 tires. And a convertible top/full sunroof that opens easily.

I guess it is a case of you love it or you don't. But, out of sheer coincidence, we now have three open classic cars that seat four....a British Morris Minor convertible, a German VW Super Beelte cabriolet, and this French Citroen 2CV. Take your pick.

(and yes, parts are easily ordered from a number of parts suppliers in both the USA and Canada. Car comes with a Haynes repair manual, add a set of metric tools and keeping this car running and driving should be within the skill level of most lawn mower mechanics)
