Classic Car Overview

1976 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe For consignment, a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with numbers matching drivetrain, some new parts, tasteful mods, and a long list of show and event appearances with some wins. Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area Exterior The Vette is bathed in Pearl White paint and is augmented by beige ghost flames that coat the nose and head back. Other personal touches include an L88 style hood scoop that is nonfunctional but impressive looking, side pipes that are both functional and impressive, the nameplate on the back has been painted lavender, and 15-inch Cragar wheels with faux knock-offs to replace stock wheels and wear 70 series tires. The multi ringed lenses of the taillights have in their place solid red convex lenses that provide a custom look. Body colored T-tops create a solid roof that can be stowed in the back for open air driving and the flush, chrome door handles are in great condition. No major flaws made our list when reviewing the exterior. Interior Light Buckskin colored door panels greet entrants of the car with an accent woodgrain panel, a carpeted lower and an armrest and everything is canted down towards the back creating ideal ergonomics for occupants sitting in the bucket seats. We do note a small tear and some soiling on the drivers side door panel. Tall backed leather buckets with pleated patterned inserts reside in the cockpit and appear to be in great condition. A 4 spoke steering wheel, which was borrowed from the Vega GT is onboard here, wrapped in an aftermarket cover. Textured molded plastic creates the dashboard which houses two large gauges in the sightline of the driver while the center stack, with some patina, displays five small gauges in a pod that always reminds us of an aircraft. An AM/FM/Cassette radio is present as well and the front passenger has pockets in lieu of a glove box on their side of the dash. Woodgrain, darker than the doors, surrounds the shifter and climate control wheels on the center console and an L48 plaque is embedded in that base, all in good shape. Thick pile gold carpet is in good shape protected by carpeted mats, fitted to the footwells. Drivetrain Very clean and very shiny under the hood, our numbers matching L48 350ci engine thats rated at 180 horsepower, good enough for Car and Driver to go 6.8 seconds to 60 in 1976. Theres an unusual situation in that the serial number stamping is correct but is dated the production date stamp is two months after the scheduled build date of the car. GM faux pas? Hard to know. The engine is topped with a Holley 650cfm 4-barrel carburetor perched on an Edelbrock intake, surrounded by chrome valve covers, a chromed alternator and other bright parts. Polished headers send the gases south. The transmission is a numbers matching TH350 3-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels and 3.08 gears. Power disc brakes are found front and rear. Undercarriage Pleasantly clean and dry underneath and for extra shine, the oil pan, flywheel cover, and transmission pan are chromed. The exhaust runs like the shiny tentacles of an octopus in eight pipes directly to the side pipes. There are no catalytic converters. Coil springs are up front for suspension and the rear is Corvettes complex system of a frame mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf springs. New front A-arm bushings are underneath as well as new U-joints and new rear trailing arms. Drive-Ability Booming exhaust notes let us know were up and running and we cruise this bit of fine flamed car around our loop. Acceleration is great and of course, handling is superb, and the riding position is comfortable and relaxed. A few things to note, the speedometer and odometer are not working, nor is the A/C. The headlights wont open, and the reverse lights wont illuminate. This is a super 76 with some custom touches that set this one apart from your standard C3. If this strikes your fancy and youre willing to get your hands dirty with the things that need attention, (or write a check), then this unique beauty is for you.
