Classic Car Overview

1975 MG Midget Believed 28,839 Original Miles | Rare Tahiti Blue | Very Original | Two Owners from New

This beautifully preserved 1975 MG Midget is finished in its rare original Tahiti Blue paint color over an Autumn Leaf tan interior. Showing just 28,839 believed original miles, this two-owner example was purchased by the seller approximately 10 years ago from the original owner and has since been driven less than 500 miles. It has been garage-kept its entire life and remains in wonderfully original condition.

Exterior & Body

The paint and body are in good condition considering their age, presenting with an honest patina. Minor imperfections such as dings, chips, and scratches are present, but the car remains highly presentable overall. There are no signs of accident damage when inspecting the body panels or undercarriage. The structure is solid, with minor surface rust in typical locations like the suspension and undercarriage, and one small area of bubbling on the lower rocker (see images).

Interior

The interior is remarkably well-preserved, with the original upholstery free from rips, tears, or stains. The black convertible soft top is in good, usable condition, showing only light clouding in the plastic windows. Additional features include a black tonneau cover, boot cover, original AM/FM radio, dash, keys, shift knob, owners manual, jack, lug wrench, and tool bag.

Mechanical & Engine Bay

Under the hood, the engine bay shows its age cosmetically but is unmodified and completeretaining the factory-correct components throughout. The 1500cc engine starts easily every time, runs strong through the rev range, and maintains excellent oil pressure. The car does not overheat, even in hot Southern California weather. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts cleanly through all gears without grinding or popping out.

Driving Impressions

The driving experience is a standout: light, direct, and delightfully balanced. The car feels like it slots somewhere between a Lotus Elan and an MGB. The controls are lighter than the MGB, offering similar cornering balance and ease of steering, though it doesnt quite match the outright grip or braking performance of the Lotus. That said, the Midgets charm lies in its feedback and analog feel, making for a satisfying drive whether on winding roads or around town.

Condition Notes & Known Issues

The drivetrain would benefit from new engine and transmission mounts, as a slight thud can occasionally be heard from movement of the driveline. Additionally, the front lever shocks are worn and should be replaced, as they feel bouncy and loose over bumps and when cornering.

Maintenance & Recent Work Under Previous Ownership:

New 145R13 Firestone F560 tires from Coker

Stainless steel lug nuts

New battery

MG-branded rubber floor mats

Updated to three-point seat belts

New valve cover, air filter, and spark plugs

Updated hoses as needed

Rebuilt carburetor and replaced fuel line

New sway bar, front and rear springs

Lowered suspension with polyurethane bushings

Distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires replaced

New oil pressure switch

General tune-ups and maintenance throughout ownership

MG purists will appreciate the originality and unmodified condition of this classic Midget. With its charming factory color combination, strong mechanical condition, and thoughtful ownership history, this example makes for an ideal candidate for continued preservation. In California, the car is smog-exempt, offering flexibility for future tuning or performance upgrades.
