VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1975 Mercedes-Benz 450 SL for sale.  I am posting this ad for my elderly father-in-law who no longer drives and is not doing well.  This is what I can tell you about it:  He purchased the car in 2008 with 154,652 miles shortly after it had been restored.  Since purchasing the car it has been stored in his garage that has heat and air conditioning.  The body is very clean and I can not find a hint of rust on the car.  It comes with a hard top that he has never installed because he only drove it on nice summer days.  He has put on an average of 900 miles a year.  The current mileage is 165,079.   He replaced the soft top several years ago and it is in excellent condition.  I remember him spending $2000 dollars on some top end maintenance several years ago recommended and performed by a local Mercedes mechanic.  In my estimation, he has spent more time washing and waxing the car than driving it.  He was a stickler for a smooth running vehicle and would chase a vibration or a shimmy down for weeks.  Being retired, he had the time to do it.  It has Michelins all the way around.  My mother-in-law has provided me with all the paperwork from the sale back in 2008 for your review..I am currently storing the car in my garage.  Before I put it under its cover, I drove about 200 plus miles to empty the tank.  Some of the fuel was a year old and some fuel was older.  The fuel I just burned up was stabilized and the new premium fuel I topped off with as well.  As you can see from the pictures, the car is in great shape.  The paint shines and the top is flawless.  The doors, hood and trunk close with a nice sounding thud.  The car cruises down the road nicely.   The battery is new and the car starts right up.While burning up the fuel I found several things that will need attention.  The tachometer and clock are not working.  Unfortunately, the odometer stopped working just before I got home.  It is now reading 165,079.  I have the paperwork from this years inspection showing it had slightly less miles.   The power steering unit is whining and one of the power steering hoses has a slow drip.  I have found no other leaks on the garage floor.  The steering feels “heavy” for a car with power steering, so I believe the unit it not working.  The blower works on all speeds and defrost, but I was not able to regulate the heat very well as there is no labeling next to the controls.

If you would like to test drive the car give me a call.  I am located in Goffstown, NH and my in-laws live close by.  Once the snow flies and there is salt on the road, you are welcome to come see and hear it, but it will not be leaving the garage.  Thanks for reading.
