Classic Car Overview

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys Arizona event, 23 January 2026.
Offered Without Reserve $100,000 - $120,000 USD

  • Superbly preserved example of one of the last true muscle cars
  • Displaying just 12,194 miles at cataloguing time
  • One of 953 SD-455 examples built for 1974 and one of 95 Canadian-delivery examples
  • Finished in Cameo White with white vinyl trim and blue Screaming Chicken Trans Am graphics
  • Impressive factory options, including power windows and locks, heavy duty radiator, and Custom Trim Group
  • Well-documented with dealer invoice, build records, and General Motors correspondence

Conceived amid tightening emissions and insurance restrictions, the Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty 455 was nothing short of a rebellion a final, defiant statement by American engineers unwilling to let the curtain fall quietly on the muscle car era. Featuring a host of reinforced internals, a high-lift camshaft, and free-breathing heads, the SD-455 was rumored to deliver far more than its official 290 horsepower rating. With its shaker hood, bold graphics, and iconic Screaming Chicken decal, it quickly became an American performance icon and is widely regarded as the closing chapter in the muscle car era.

Displaying an astoundingly low 12,194 miles at cataloguing time, the SD-455 offered here is incredibly well-preserved and documented. Completed in July 1974, this Canadian-delivery model left Pontiacs Oshawa, Ontario, plant finished as it remains today in Cameo White over white vinyl trim, accentuated by a black and blue Screaming Chicken hood decal with accompanying graphics.

Documentation from General Motors Limited of Canada confirms the car as one of just 95 examples of the Trans Am SD-455 imported to Canada that year. Factory records list an impressive array of options, including power windows and locks, a heavy duty radiator, AM/FM stereo radio, tilt steering wheel, extensive brightwork, and the Custom Trim Group, among others.

Records show the car was sold new through McNaught Pontiac-Buick of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and is believed to have remained in Canada under careful stewardship through 1991, remarkably accumulating just 9,000 miles up to that point. With less than 3,200 miles added in more than three decades since, the car has remained in cherished care. Importantly, stampings on the engine and transmission carry the same serial number sequence (1674) as found in the chassis number, indicative of both being factory-installed units. It is accompanied by a set of Rally II wheels, owners books, and a collection of build and service records.

With minimal mileage and superb provenance, this Trans Am SD-455 isnt just an ultimate muscle car, it is a proud, thunderous farewell to an era of unbridled American power.
