This 1974 Indy 4900 is an amazing example of Maseratis last model year of the Indy named after the factory 2 victories at the Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and 1940 by Warren Shaw in his 8CTF. About 1,000 Indys were built starting in 1969 with a 4.2 liter motor, then a 4.7 liter and finally in its last 2 years the 4.9 liter power unit. This particular example has a stunning presence. Designed by Carrozzeria Vignale this 4-seater Tipo AM116 looks highly elegant in its color sanded original Azzurro Artico exterior color, white leather interior and gorgeous Campagnolo wheels. It drives and runs excellently with its 340hp 4.9 liter 4 cam motor fed by 4 throaty 2-barrel 32DCNF Webber carburetors all connecting to its silky smooth ZF S 5-speed manual transmission. With the exception of service parts, new carpet and 2 sections of leather interior this matching numbers Tipo AM116 is original including the paint and interior. The factory AC has been upgraded with a Denso compressor and other modern components resulting in a high standard climate control system. This Indy stayed within the ownership of the immediate royal family of the Princess, moving from Rome to Monaco then Paris and San Francisco up until it was sold in 2017 to its second and only other owner since.

The car was exhibited at the San Diego Automotive museum for a 3 month showing titled Cars and Society. It was also featured in a TV segment by Cars.TV on Concorso Italiano at the Monterey car week aired in the Spring of 2024.
