From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
This is a really nice original non restored 1974 Lincoln Continental
Mark 4 in great condition, original 460 motor with 4 barrel carb. The
paint is original, the interior is Gold 7. Interior is in great condition, no cracks in dash(I have a dash cover for it also). All of the guages work, the Cartier clock
works but does not keep time, it runs and will stop time to time. The
shag carpet is in great shape as are all the seats, front and rear. No
holes or tears in the seats, good padding too. The air conditioning
works nicely (cold) as does the heater. All of the electric windows
work, front power seats, so do the door locks. The headliner is near
perfect also. The exterior paint is very nice and has a nice shine. This
car has been garaged for it`s entire life and it shows. There are a
couple of dings here and there and some scratches. The small dings and
scratches can probably be taken care of without too much difficulty. The bumper
chrome is excellent and no tweaks in the shape.
I bought the car off of the daughter of the original owner. She told me it had never been in an accident and appears that way to me. All of the doors, hood and trunk have even spacing, everything closes nicely. The transmission was gone through a few years ago and has only gone 3000 miles since. The carb was rebuilt about 4 years ago, runs very smooth, starts easily and drives very nice. There`s about 3k on the shocks too. The front brakes are in good shape, lots of pad left and no lip on the rotors, no shimmy under braking and brakes feel really good. I tried to peek at the brake shoes just the other day but could not see in there. I think they are still in good shape, no wetness around the wheel cylinders. There are no clunks from the suspension and feels tight.
Production date is 11/73, the transmission is a C-6 and rear axle is 2.75:1. When the tranny was gone through, they replaced the torque converter with a rebuilt unit, new modulator, 1 new band, and new assembly set.
The motor runs great, very smooth, idlles nice and starts easliy. Does not leave any oil on the ground when parked. The trans too does not leave any oil on the ground.
This is a really nice driver and looks great. The Maize Yellow is a classy color and with a little bit of touching up here and there could look even better while still being an original unrestored car. I would really like to keep it but it`s just too big for the room that I have.
The registration has just been renewed too.
