Classic Car Overview

1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster
First shown in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful automotive shapes ever constructed. Going through numerous revisions over its production, its final form was the Series III which was introduced in 1971 - this version saw a V12 replace the inline-6 up front, and some dimensional changes to improve cabin comfort for long-distance, high speed touring. This 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster has been under the care of the same family its whole life, with the consignors mother purchasing the car new.
Finished in Silver with a color-matched removable hard top, this 1974 E-Type currently shows 5,451 miles on the odometer which is believed to be original. For the Series III, Jaguar engineers made the car both longer and wider, and features like the cross-slatted front grille and wider wheel arches make it immediately recognizable over the older variants. This example sits on a set of 15-inch wire wheels and has a dual Stinger exhaust out the back.
The interior is wrapped in dark blue leather which offers a striking contrast against the silver exterior. As one of the most luxurious cars on the market at the time, the bucket seats are comfortable and well padded, with perforated seat centers, and a large 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel situated in front of the driver. One thing that is a consistent across all E-Types is the ever-classic-looking white-on-black Smiths gauges in front of the driver with a large speedometer and tach immediately in front of you, and five auxiliary gauges to your right. This E-Type was fitted from the factory with a Black soft top, air conditioning and a period AM/FM radio.
Under the hood sits a 5.3-liter V12 - with competition roots, this engine went on to be used until 1996 in the venerable XJ12. In the Series III E-Type, the engine breathes through four Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and makes 272 horsepower and 288lb-ft of torque. The engine benefits from a recent tuneup and steering rack rebuild at the Park Place Ltd. service center. Power is sent through a 3-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels. The E-Type was revolutionary upon its debut as an early adopter of both 4-wheel independent suspension and 4-wheel disc brakes in a series production car and this car puts both to good use.
This Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster represents a unique opportunity to purchase a sought after classic that has been under the care of a single family since it was purchased new. With a recent recommissioning after a period of little use, this car will be a joy to drive and fantastic to look at in your garage as well!
