NOTES FROM 2ND OWNER (5 paragraphs below):
To sort this car, immediately after buying, it was sent to Roush Special Projects division for mild tuning & service. (Their resident Pantera experts R&Rd engine, trans, clutch service, etc.) Afterwards, I sent to Pantera expert Pat Mical (Pats Auto-Massachusetts) for suspension, brakes, cooling, AC upgrades.
ENGINE:
Car runs strong. The only mods to the engine are a set of Pat Mical hand-bent custom headers ($1500+ new), Euro GTS exhaust, Blue Thunder Pantera Intake, Holley 670 Avenger carb, Duraspark distributor. This combination makes for a nice power increase, outstanding exhaust note, and docile city manners.
The engine compartment is clean and nicely detailed as factory. Cosmetic concessions included a set of Pantera aluminum valve covers, painted in Ford blue, then buffed to reveal raised details. The aluminum intake & mildly modified stock breather are the only visual deviations from factory.
COOLING:
Pat removed the stock radiator, cleaned/modified the tanks for maximum efficiency. Twin Spal fans added, set to individual thermostats & aluminum Edelbrock water pump. Smaller diameter aluminum pulley to increase flow at idle. It never overheated in the Alabama heat. The systems function great with factory radiator under a stock shroud.
SUSPENSION:
Pat reworked the suspension for tracking & handling. The upper control arms were modified for additional caster. Shocks, springs, bushings, either replaced or renewed. Steering rack rebuilt by Pantera Performance w/bronze bushings replacing nylon. Lowered ¾, Euro ride height. Rear sway bar & control arms powder coated.
ELECTRICAL:
Ignition & headlight relay upgrade to reduce current. Installed Jon Haas Pantera Electronics fusebox and Jon's LED taillamps.
The repaint was matched to the original paint on the car using 2-stage Glasurit about 15 years ago. I receive compliments on how gorgeous the paint & color are. Car is straight & clean. Paint quality is excellent with few nicks. Rockers are in flat/satin black. Painter kept the original spot-welds under front bumper & on rockers to preserve originality.
Weatherstripping was replaced & stainless trim polished. Chrome door handles & buckets refinished. All glass, front & rear bumpers are nice.
