1988-1992 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE: The Original Factory Racer

With all the hoopla surrounding the new Camaro 1LE, let's look back at the original.

The story of the ZL1 Camaro, fitted with that rarest of the rare, all-aluminum 427 big-block V-8, is one that has often been told: How only 69 were made, how they exploited the GM option-ordering system, and how they've become the Camaro guy's ultimate Camaro.

Classic Car Overview

The 1974 Camaro had the first major exterior facelift of the second-generation sports car.  New aluminum bumpers front and rear, a body-color fascia above the front bumper and new taillights highlighted the new look.  This numbers matching 1974 Camaro Z/28 Type LT is an original, low miles car with mileage at just over 28K miles.  Despite the exceptionally low mileage this rare Z/28 was still treated to a full, frame-off, concourse level restoration with no expense spared.  The Type LT package included a plusher interior with restyled seats and door trim in knit vinyl, new woodgrain treatments and color coordinated instrument panel, steering wheel and column.  Amberlite insulation blankets were included in the doors, rear quarters, roof/sail panels, behind rear seat, under package tray and under carpeting to provide a more comfortable ride.  Inside the cabin is the original factory and untouched interior that was refreshed by just adding a new carpet and headliner.  The Z/28 rolls on its factory rally wheels wrapped in the legendary Firestone Wide Oval tires.  The originality continues to the trunk where the factory spare tire and components reside.  The Camaro has been thoroughly inspected by renowned Camaro expert Jerry MacNeish who has certified the Z/28’s authenticity.  Included with the Camaro is a plethora of original documentation including the original vehicle Invoice, original build sheet, original new vehicle pre-delivery inspection report and original owner’s manual.  This Light Gold Z/28 is one of the finest 1974 Type LTs’ in existence, with exceptional documentation, and is ready for any afternoon cruise or car show gathering!
