Classic Car Overview

1974 Chevrolet C-10 Short Bed, Stepside

This Chevy C-10 was purchased brand new from Jackson Chevrolet in Middletown, CT by an employee of the dealership. He drove the truck regularly and used it like, well, a truck.

When he passed away, his son inherited the truck and being a hot rodder, decided to modify it a little. The primary thing he went after was the engine. He rebuilt the original into a 383 stroker, dynoed at up over 550 HP and over 500 LB ft of torque.

He ran that through, believe it or not, the original three on the tree Muncie and the truck's stock 12 bolt rear. The truck was a beast.

Unfortunately, after just a few years, he was diagnosed with cancer and he passed away. His friend and neighbor bought the truck just a few years ago and started in on a restoration, buying new sheet metal for the front and rear fenders, going with a rolled rear pan, new inner fenders and a nice fiberglass bed cover. He also pulled the original engine and purchased a crate 383 stroker from Blueprint Engines that is putting a more reasonable (in his opinion) 435 horsepower to the ground. The engine is backed up by a Tremac 6 speed manual transmission. He replaced the axles and rear diff gears with 4:10 Richmond Gears and an RG Locker (ratcheting type, not a full spool). New shocks were installed and after a quick blast down the street, before the paint was done, he realized the brakes were woefully inadequate, so he installed Wilwood's hyrdoboost power brake kit along with Wilwood disc brakes front and rear. New 16" American Racing alum wheels were bought and wrapped in 265/70/R16 rubber, in order to fit the Wilwood brakes.

It was at this point that the current owner rec'd some bad news of his own. He too was diagnosed with cancer. Not knowing how things might go, he had the body shop finish up the paint work on the outside (the inside of the bed was kept original) and the original Bronze color, a one year only color, was applied. There were a bunch of new trim pieces, mirrors, door handles, etc. he had and those were all installed after the paint was finished, so this truck looks brand new.

The interior was kept stock as well as a nod to the original owner. The dash and door cards are in great condition, the original brown and tan seat has a small tear in the driver side, it is covered by the age old "Mexican Blanket seat cover".

He wanted to enjoy the truck for at least a little bit if things didn't work out with his chemo/radiation. So, the truck did not get a full on restoration, but very close.

he drove the truck and enjoyed every bit of it.

Good news is that cancer was cleared out by the various treatments, however, an issue with his high school car and another family car project have taken precedence over ownership of the truck so he's decided, now that he's fully enjoyed the brutish power, to send this one on it's way to a new home.

The new owner can leave the interior and bed stock or further modify them to their own taste.

The truck starts and runs like a bear. A couple taps of the gas and she fires right up and rumbles deeply through the Hooker Headers, 2.5" stainless exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers. If you're looking for a little more roar, flip the under dash switch that opens up the exhaust cut outs just behind the headers and really let her rip.

The odometer shows 83,000 miles but the drive train has less than 3000 miles on it.

Jump on it and the tires light up but quickly grab traction and move you through the gears and the ticks on the speedometer. Get on the highway and even with the 4:10 gears, the Tremac 6 speed keeps engine speed just below 2000 RPM at 70 MPH.

The owner has all new dash gauges for it that come with the truck, along with the original engine in it's 383/565 HP form and the original transmission.

Asking price for all this is just $29,750
