Classic Car Overview
I've had this car since 1996, used as a daily driver (short commute) for some years, used now & then the other years, garage kept some years, some years in driveway. Everything works, including the gasoline powered heater, just about everything on it is stock, nothing fancy, just a good solid Thing. We bought two newer family cars and a boat in the last year and it's finally time to let the beloved Thing go. It's always been reliable, just jump in and go, it doesn't need anything to get it running or anything like that. Probably the worst thing about it is that ever since I've had it it will pop out of first gear if you're not holding the stick shift. Since you're holding it anyway right before you shift into second gear it's never been a real problem. It also will probably need a new top soon. That was the next thing I had planned to do before recently deciding we needed to sell it. Also, the contacts or wiring between the steering wheel and the horn were apparently bad and beyond my capabilities to figure out, and so I put a little button under the dash for blowing the horn.
The engine had a split-case full rebuild in 2014, the generator was replaced in 2021, and over the years whatever else needed repair or replacement was taken care of as needed, such as tie rod ends, a clutch, a clutch cable, a new windshield a few years back, new drums all around, tires, full brake rebuild, etc. etc. As you can see from the photos, it has many correct original things on it that are rarely seen today, such as the correct side view mirrors with the Thing-specific extender pieces and original side flaps on the front side curtains. I have no idea how many miles are on it, it's had a couple of different speedometers since I've had it. Engine case is original AM code, and it has all of the protection plates & grates mounted on. The rear bumper has a trailer hitch welded onto it by a previous owner, rest assured I never pulled anything with it except moving an empty trailer across town once.
