Classic Car Overview

1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle

This Beetle was purchased roughly 5 years ago from an older woman in MA who was a librarian, this would seem like the perfect car for her. However, she was hardly driving the bug, she was driving her 32 Ford Rat Rod pick up instead, so she sold the Beetle to the current owner here in CT. She owned the car for 6 years or so and she purchased it after it had been freshly restored by a fellow in MA who would get Beetles from the local VW dealership when they got them as trade ins. He would then restore them and sell them off.

The current owner bought the car as a fun summer car that he could take the grand kids out for ice cream, rides along the shoreline, etc. However, his daughter and wife eventually poo-poo'd that idea as they felt the Super Beetle wasn't safe enough for the grand kids if something bad happened, so after 5+ years of ownership and he not driving it much either, it's been decided it's time to find this cute as a bug VW a new home.

This 73 has 62,900 on the odometer but is guessed that less than 4000 are on the car since the full restoration.

As evidenced in the photos, every aspect of this car was touched. It is believed that he started with a rust free car and stripped it down and replaced all the moving parts/joints, etc. rebuilt the engine and 3 speed Auto-Stick transmission. The interior was treated to new seat covers and pads, new door cards, dash board, carpets, headliner, etc.

Any issues with the body were handled and the car was painted in the stock Marina Blue.

The body and paint on this car are those of a new car. There are two minor nicks in the paint that I could find. There are only a few other minor issues seen throughout the entire car, like the carpet just slight pulling away from the body up under the dash and the snapped plastic seat handle on the passenger side. Other wise this car is in excellent condition. On a scale of 1-6, I'd call this car a beautiful 2+ (closer to 1 than 3).

While VW Super Beetles aren't known as "numbers matching" the three VINs all match and the engine is an AH 067 which would have been built at the same time the car was built, 3/73.

The engine starts immediately, even when cold and runs absolutely fabulous. Smooth idle and builds vacuum quickly so that the auto-stick will shift correctly. The engine is a 1600 dual port, 48 HP model and while that is not a lot, it is sufficient to move this car along briskly and provide a very enjoyable drive. All the electronics work as they should - Lights, horn, wipers, radio, heat/def.

In essence, what is on offer is a nearly new 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle.

Feels good to sit in her, starts, runs and drives beautifully.

Most price guides have a car of this level in the mid to high twenty thousand range.

The asking price on this one is $23,500

Any questions, for several hundred more photos and video, to schedule a time to see her in person or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for the interest!
