VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

Its time to look retro, sophisticated, cool, and unique - all for a value price. This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL has been given solid investment over the last few years to make sure this distinct triple-black classic remains a solid fun cruiser. When youre a Mercedes collector, you get excited when a 1973 SL comes up for grabs. This was only the second model year for the R107 SL, but it was the final one before the new bumper laws dictated some of the styling. So this is one of the rare US-spec examples that had the factory form-hugging bumpers as intended by the designers. It gives this a purist style, and thats reflected in other places, like the wheels. The color-matched one-piece hubcaps offer a great vintage appearance. These were the wheel style that came on most of the early legendary post-WWII Mercedes-Benzs, but unfortunately, not too many feature them today. Clean glass, good lights, complete emblems, and quality panel fit are all about showcasing this early R107 so others can fully appreciate the style, too. And we love the black paint. Its a later respray that has a nice gloss while not disqualifying it from being driver-quality and driver-ready. Thats what keeps this a good cruiser. And when you have a full black package - including the choice of a soft top or hard top - it just looks like your classic is a bit more sophisticated than others. The black interior gets us excited because that means the paint, roof, and inside make for the ultra-desirable triple-black combo. In fact, since you have two roofs, does this make it a quadruple-black car? This dark style looks clean and luxurious with full carpeting, nice door panels, a classic steering wheel, and bucket seats done on MB-Tex leatherette. There are nice features like power windows and cold factory air conditioning! And we especially like the radio setup. The Becker Mexico is a true classic unit thats terrific to see on display, but your real driving music comes when you use your modern phone to sync into the Bluetooth system and amplified speakers. The engine bay has a tidy and correct style. Just like the rest of the car, you can tell there was time, money, and passion invested under the hood. In fact, we have a long list of newer components that were added within the last few years. This includes an overhauled front subframe, new brakes, and even a new fuel pump system that happened within the last few months. You can call for all the details on over $16k in investments, but you can already understand how that contributes to an exceptionally solid feeling on the road. The fuel-injected 4.5-liter powerhouse fires up eagerly, and this torque-filled V8 fully works with the fully independent chassis for a supple but confident driver. Plus, theres power steering, a three-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel power disc brakes for a terrific classic cruiser total attitude. This Mercedes is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and the kind of maintenance and care weve seen on this certainly suggests its aiming for the century mark and beyond. So you deserve to celebrate the golden anniversary of this all-black car by starting your legacy with it today.
