VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Make me an offer on this 1972 Volkswagen Squareback that's lived its life in SoCal, away from the metal eating salt of snowy states. It can be yours just in time to cruise around town without traffic! The new 4 speed manual transmission installed last year makes it feel like a new car- it also has new gaskets on the muffler which make it SOUND like a new car. It has New Tie Rods, tie rod ends, steering damper bushings, distributor points, and a new battery. Mostly it has been an in-town driver, but it has also been up and down the west coast with no major problems outside of regular tune ups. This little buggy is solid. New headliner just installed with window trim and new vinyl door panels. Clean title and registration till September. A new Master Brake Cylinder was installed three years ago with new brakes and rotors. New tires and shocks were installed three years ago. New Clutch Kit and Flywheel were installed four years ago. New Dual Carbs, fuel pump, and distributor were installed six years ago along with new fuel lines. Windows roll up and down, doors and hatch close and lock. It has a locally crafted custom welded tubular steel and wood slat roof rack perfect for strapping surfboards, luggage, etc. Original seats are comfortable and in good condition without rips or tears.

Here is an easy to read list of new parts installed and maintenance work Ive had done to make it look and drive like a champ:

- 4 speed manual transmission
- Battery
- Tires
- Shocks
- Front Brakes
- Front Rotors
- Master Brake Cylinder
- Dual Carbs
- Fuel lines
- Fuel pump
- Distributor - Distributor points
- Clutch
- Pressure plate
- Flywheel
- Muffler gaskets
- Tie Rods
- Tie Rod Ends
- Steering damper bushings
- Headliner
- New Vinyl Door Panels
- New Window trim
- New Chrome trim
- Roof Luggage Rack

Maintenance was done at "Jomag" the local VW shop that specializes in vintage VWs.

The only thing it really needs is a new front bumper (which I have, just haven't been in town to install). Maybe a new vinyl dash (it has a crack in it from the heat), but I like it with the decorative fabric so I haven't ordered a new one.

Car has at least 150,000 miles on it, although I'm unable to verify actual mileage because the odometer stopped somewhere along the way. Its been my daily driver since 2010 and never let me down. It got a little rough at one point, and that's when I decided to replace the original fuel injection system with new Dual Carburetors, which is easy to work on, and it's been fine ever since. I'm selling it because the pandemic disrupted LA life and Im moving elsewhere but want to leave this classic with someone who is excited to have it.

Did I mention its fun to drive? For $10,500 the keys are yours- or make me an offer!
