VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1972 Volkswagen Beetle Electric 72V DC Is there really any other car thats captured the worlds heart the way the Beetle has? Especially coming from such hard and tyrannical times. What started off as a brainchild of a dictator, only 2 decades later became the juxtaposed icon of the peace movement. The Beetle really is a fantastic car for everyone, from the learners to the elderly, its so easy to maintain and great to drive. There really is so much more to find out when it comes to the Beetle and keep an eye out for them, from the original to the latest bug-eyed beauty, you really never know where one will pop up. As often as its been said at Classic Auto Mall one of the exciting things is one never knows what is coming through the door next, and guess what popped up a few days ago?...this 1972 version with a 72 volt DC electric conversion in, albeit in barn find condition. This bug begs for a transformation to bring it up to modern electric car standards and performance. Hmmmmm, a Beetesla....I like the sound of that! Please Note: NO TITLE-SOLD ON A BILL OF SALE ONLY Exterior With a red respray covering the exterior, it shows good condition, however there are some dents, dings and areas of paint chips exposing surface rusted metal. Several areas of the chrome trim have rust and some pitting, in particular the bumpers and door handles, but the stainless brightwork remains shiny. A sunroof has been added to the bulbous roof and the rubber coated running boards are holding up nicely. Whitewall tires, needing replacement, wrap steel 14 wheels and are decorated with varying General Motors wheel covers. Interior A swing of the door shows standard VW door panels in black vinyl along with black plastic for the window crank and door release. Black vinyl buckets, in very nice condition are up front and the rear seat has been removed showing the factory sound deadener and some framing. Faded and soiled black carpet floods the floors with the original shifter still in its factory location and a white perforated vinyl headliner displays above in good original condition. A metal simple dash has some woodgrain inserted and houses the round speedometer in the middle of the drivers side along with a black speaker grille. In the center of the dash is an AM/FM/8 track stereo along with a multitude of gauges to monitor the electrical drive conversion. In front of the passenger is a wooden glovebox door complete with LCD clock and just below is an air shock controller. Under the front hood, we see the standard 12-volt battery along with various electronic controllers installed during the conversion. Drivetrain A lift of the rear engine cover and what to our wondering eyes should appear but a 72-volt DC electric motor, not internal combustion here. Complete with an EV controller and yards of varying thickness wiring, all traces of the old flat 4 cylinder are gone. The factory 4 speed manual transmission works with a 4.125 geared axle to get this Beetle moving. Undercarriage Showing some surface rust and nice patina the undercarriage is in good condition but does present with a few prior repairs to the floor pans. Independent suspension is seen on all 4 corners as are drum brakes. Lets face it, all VW Beetles are meant to be fun, and this one could be made into something to rival that of Elon Musks wildest dreams. An electric conversion before electric cars were household words, just needing your time, TLC, and vision.
