VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. From a cargo carrier with no windows behind the driver's seat to a windowed passenger van with three rows of seats, the possibilities seemed endless.

Classic Car Overview

1972 Triumph TR6 Roadster For consignment, a 1972 Triumph TR6 roadster showing 88 miles, but the true miles are unknown. The Triumph TR6 was designed by the German coachbuilding company Karmann, not by Giovanni Michelotti, who designed the earlier TR models. This bright yellow example is sure to turn some heads and raise some eyebrows! Exterior It is two stage Jasmine Yellow that pops off of this classic British sports car covering its handsome shape with a vibrant energetic hue that could be moving while standing still. It is offset by the rear fascia which is fully black with exception, of course, of the three colored tail lights and shining chrome bumper. Two sizable exhaust tips also wear chrome and extend in tandem past the bumper. The yellow is also pierced by the TR6 emblems on the rear fenders which includes the Union flag. 15-inch wheels include red TR6 hubcaps and polished trim rings to complete the classic look and the typical configuration of single round headlights fronts this sports car and a black canvas top completes the attractive package. Imperfections include some paint chips, rough surfaces at a rocker seam, and uneven filler and paint also down low. Interior Black vinyl door panels finish the inner doors nicely and include a tight pocket map, an advance over the loose, pleated versions of earlier cars. The black vinyl bucket seats are in very nice condition with tuck and roll inserts surrounded by robust cushioning and an integrated headrest above. Behind them, a small package shelf cleanly covered with gray carpet. The three spoke steering wheel fronts a wood dashboard housing a number of tidy round gauges and a toggle for the wipers. Black knobs line up in the center of the dash over the AM/FM radio which shares its casing with the shifter on the floor. The dark palette continues with black carpet on the floor and black rubber Triumph branded mats on top. Gray carpet covers the floor of the trunk which is finished with black vinyl paneled walls. Drivetrain The engine bay is very clean and houses the 2.5 liter inline six with 2 SU carburetors and rated at 104 horsepower. A 5-speed manual sets the bright car in motion and sends power to the rear axle and 3.80 gears. They managed to fit a small brake booster under the hood and it assists the front discs and rear drums. Undercarriage The knuckles and wheel components are very clean, while the underside does have some oil present including some drift from the pan. Theres some typical surface rust and some of the flaky stuff on the inner rocker panels. We also note some welded fortification on the frame. Headers begin the exhaust process which flows through a single pipe and stock style muffler before sending twin tail pipes and chrome tips out back. Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with semi trailing arms included in back. Drive-Ability We could drive 100 of these and never get bored! Good power, great handling, and the feel of nimble quickness are the characteristics of the TR6, although this one suffers from a slight miss in the engine. But turn-ins are fun, tracking is straight, and visibility is very good. We note the odometer is not working but other functional items operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Twenty one TR6s have passed through our halls and with the exception of those still on the showroom floor, all have found new homes. But out of those 21, only one other was yellow. We think its a great color for the car, exciting and eye-catching. Dont you want to be seen in this classic sports car? Of course you do! This is a great little Brit. Now finish your tea and crumpets and register your interest today.
