Classic Car Overview
Here we have a real-deal -- as confirmed by the original, included broadcast sheet -- 1972 Plymouth Duster 340. The body and paint are nearly all original, impressive indeed for a car over thats over 50 years old. Notably, the front fenders, doors and rear quarters are original and still wear the original Hemi Orange color with the black Duster 340 graphics.
We originally sold this car to a Mopar enthusiast back in 2020 and during the five years that he owned it he made a number of tasteful, factory-style improvements to the car such as adding the hood scoops, swapping out the 3.23 rear gear for a more responsive 3.73 unit and replacing the boring stock steering wheel with the sporty and thick-rimmed Tuff wheel. He also enjoyed the car as he put about 13,000 miles on it. We love when people drive these cars!
Prior to his ownership, we had removed the engine, resealed all gaskets, put in new freeze plugs and repainted the engine the correct factory blue color. The front end and brakes have also been rebuilt as needed. We verified that all the key components appear to be all original and correct. Note that the minor surface rust under the hood is the original paint flaking off.
As mentioned, the Dusters body has mostly original paint, some areas are thin where its been buffed. The body is arrow straight and doors close with just a touch of your finger. The front bumper has a small blemish as seen in the photo gallery but otherwise the chrome and brightwork are very presentable. The car comes with the original jack but no spare.
The interior has been partially restored as needed, including a newly and correctly reupholstered front seat, and it looks pristine from the headliner down to the fairly new carpet. As stated earlier, the original steering wheel (included) was replaced with the factory optional Tuff wheel.
The highly-regarded (and matching numbers) 340 V8 fires up quickly and runs strong, with the TorqueFlite automatic providing smooth gear changes as it sends the power to the now 3.73-geared rear end. Power steering and manual brakes round out the running gear. The well-sorted car is a blast to drive with plenty of power as well as solid handling and braking performance.
Within the included binder are various documents including receipts, the 1972 Duster brochure and three original broadcast sheets. One of them is in excellent shape while the others are partial with the VIN still visible. All in all, this Duster 340 represents a rock-solid, nice driver-quality Mopar muscle car which can be enjoyed as is or serve as a solid basis for a high-end restoration.
