1972 Oldsmobile 442

Carroll Street Auto is proud to offer this beautifully restored 1972 Oldsmobile 442 convertible. Being a 1972 model year, this 442 represents the last year of the handsome 1970-1972 Cutlass body style. The following year would bring the controversially styled, heavier looking and less potent "Colonnade" generation.



On offer here is a loaded with factory options 1972 442 convertible that is refinished in its original eye-catching hue of Viking Blue. That gleaming color covers the arrow straight body panels while the 442s brilliant chrome and stainless-steel trim are likewise in fine condition. The factory color-matched "Super Stock" style wheels wearing BF Goodrich T/As add to the incredible presence this "last of the good ones" 442 has. The trunk and underside are clean and rock solid as well. A binder full of restoration receipts accompanies the car.



Inside, the crisp white interior features a bench seat with a flip-down center armrest. The restoration included new correct upholstery, carpet and door panels and the whole interior is in very nice condition overall. Look closely and youll see that this car came loaded with options, including A/C, power windows/locks/seat and tilt steering wheel. There is no radio, however, as it looks to have been removed at some point.



Under the 442s louver-accented hood is a clean engine bay packing the optional 455 4-barrel V8 that has been well maintained and runs great. It sends its power to the rear wheels via the automatic transmission. The trumpet tipped exhaust provides the proper muscle car burble at idle and growls aggressively when you lean into the 455.



Out on the road, this burly muscle car handles surprisingly well, thanks to its power steering, power front disc brakes and the 442s standard front/rear stabilizer bars and firmer suspension calibrations. Back then, the 442 was regarded as the best-handling muscle car, and having driven so many of them, wed have to agree.
