VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. Classic Car Overview

This is an all-original, zero accident California car, sold new at Hollywood Mercedes-Benz on July 25, 1972. Although badged 350SL, it has the US specific 4.5 litre engine. For those owners that had an issue with this, Mercedes would send original owners 450SL badges to replace the 350SL. I purchased the car in 1994 from the second owner. It spent most of its life in California but is currently in the Chicagoland area. It has never been driven in the winter and has only been driven in the rain infrequently. Except for the chrome wheels (installed new by the dealer prior to delivery), the car is all original with no modifications. It is a two top car; hardtop is in very nice condition (see photos). The black soft-top has a torn inner liner and a cracked rear window. The mechanics (frame) of the soft-top is perfect. Also included: My manual pulley system to be installed in a garage to lift the hardtop off the car and to store it. Original owner's manual, two Maintenance booklets (with original notations of oil changes, etc.), original Mercedes tools, Emission Systems Manual, and Owners Service and Warranty Policy including original owner registration card from July 25, 1972, and a *copy* of the original build sheet I North American Mercedes-Benz provided to me (see photos). Imperfections: Wheels look ok but could use a re-chrome. Minor dent in rear of driver's door. Drivers side wheel fender has a scratch. Some minor cracks in dash around driver's pod. Rare original Mercedes flashlight (from the factory) is in the glovebox but no longer works. There is a very small plexiglass insert in the center dash (that lights up when installed) that is missing. You will see the tiny light bulb that lights it up in the photos. The brake dust shield on the driver's side rear wheel squeaks a little when turning left. This has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. From the time I purchased it in 1994, it has started up first time, every time. In my opinion, this car would be a great project car to bring it back to its original glory, or with some TLC it would also make a great driver. I'm happy to answer any questions.
