Classic Car Overview
Exterior Build:
Custom-built heavy-duty front and rear steel bumpers have been added. The front bumper has a 14,000 lbs winch with synthetic cable and a remote in addition to fog lights which are new jeep front headlights combined with a high-capacity Rigid light bar and Rigid spot lights on the brush guard. The front headlights are also a high-end lighting system which run about $700. The rear bumper has fold out tire and fuel cans as well as Rigid spotlights built in which can be used while off-roading , camping or additional light whilst backing up. All new; side panels and wheel wells, doors, hood, tailgate and fiberglass lift gate, new windshield. The removable roof has been completely re fiberglassed, the weather stripping throughout the vehicle has been replaced. Every part on the vehicle has new steel with the exception of the rear quarter panels.
Drive Train Build:
The engine is a new crate blueprint 383 stroker that puts out 430 HP with 450 LBS TQ . I added a Fitech EFI system to the vehicle at install which manages performance and fuel use optimization and Im very happy with 10 mpg during normal city driving (not much difference on the highway). New high-capacity dual electric fans were added. New high-capacity alternator complete with two gel batteries manages the electrical needs with ample capacity. New short radius steering gear box with new power steering pump. The exhaust has new chrome headers and dual exhaust (It sounds like a high-performance engine but it's not embarrassingly loud). The vehicle has a three-speed automatic transmission that has been completely rebuilt along with the 4x4 transfer case and a new drive shaft. The vehicle runs on heavy duty 1-ton axels which have also been refurbished. The vehicle has a heavy duty sway bar added to eliminate any uncomfortable leans around tight curves. Gearing ratio for the high gear has been reconfigured to allow the rig to cruise at 70 mps while running just under 3000 rpm. All new rims including the spare which are wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires. Vehicle has a 6 inch lift and I have incorporated steel step bars to assist little people with entry and exit. Front brakes are new disk and the rear are drum. The suspension included new heavy-duty springs with fox performance shocks, rear springs have a washboard dampening mechanism to further smooth the ride.
Interior Build:
The interior was stripped down to the metal, sprayed with a heavy-duty black box liner which was followed up with sound proofing on the floorboards, side panels and doors.
The carpet is a high pile luxury black throughout the vehicle. The front seats are black leather electric buckets seats from a Yukon and the rear seats are black leather from the third row of an escalade (with built in seat belts) which sit on custom brackets which allow for the seats to flip up or be removed entirely similar to a new model escalade.
The front dash is new to accommodate a new Vintage air heating and cooling system. The Center panel is a lock box from tuffy and attached to it is the Uniden Bear Cat emergency station and CB, The Automatic transmission shifter is located on the floor and is new as well as a double stick transfer case shifter where on lever is high low and the other is 2X4 and 4x4 engagement. The vehicle also has a set of drink holders on the floor. The electrical switch box panel controls the various lights, and the winch. The Vehicle has a stereo system that's blue tooth enabled which has a rear back up camera, JBL speaker systems as well as an amplifier and sub-woofer. The dash is a replica of the original but is digital and manages all the vehicle systems similar to a new vehicle. The glass has all been tinted with the exception of the front windshield. There is an interior roll bar for added safety and yes I do have sunshades which are new and are connected via a custom replica bracket which was two years in the making.
The Vehicle was built over about a 3-year period as it took a while to locate all the new parts that have been added.
I used the vehicle to drive to the range and work periodically. It's a joy to drive but deserves a home that will use it vs having it sit as a showpiece at THE SHOP in Dallas TX .
The vehicle can be seen at The Shop which is a country club for vintage, custom and performance vehicles that showcases over 150 unique vehicles and is open to the public complete with Bar and restaurant.
The SHOP is located at 9100 John W Carpenter Freeway in Dallas Texas and its where the 1972 blazer is showcased. Web site is "theshopclubs.com"
Why did a outfit a GMC Jimmy with blazer logos? Well when I bought the vehicle it had a blazer grill, so I began ordering all new blazer parts (jimmy's and blazers are the same) and now its my K5 Blazer!
