Developed following the Citron-Maserati merger of 1968, the SM featured Citroens renowned front-drive chassis and super-smooth hydropneumatic suspension, with power delivered by a DOHC Maserati V-6 engine. The visually stunning and aerodynamically tapered 2-door body featured an efficient Kamm tail and was designed by Robert Opron. A true Grand Touring car capable of fast transcontinental dashes or high-speed executive commutes, the purposefully luxurious SM remains iconic today. According to marque experts, 12,920 were produced from 1970 through 1975, including a handful of coachbuilt versions by Chapron. Just 1,200 were imported new to North America.
