This was probably someones daily driver back in the day and now benefits from some extensive modifications making it a build worthy of car shows and one to reserve for special occasions and fair weathered drives. It pays tribute to the Nova Rally of which 33,319 were built in 72. Exterior Striking Hugger Orange paint glistens with two stage lucidity, complemented with a black Rally Nova stripe that not only rises from the back, but shrinks to a point at the front, creating a visual lift off in profile and continuing around the latch panels between wonderfully simple rectangular tail lights. Rally Nova is scripted on the front of the cowl hood over a black grille and chrome bumper in great condition. A 383 emblem on the side broadcasts whats under the hood while 15-inch Cragar SS wheels add an aftermarket aggressiveness with staggered size tires that are no older than early 2022. The metalwork and paint are in excellent condition, and we could not find any glaring exterior imperfections. Interior More cleanliness inside as the black door panels with woodgrain accenting become your portal to the black vinyl split bench seat in like new condition and the back bench also presents well. The 3 spoke comfort grip steering wheel shares its column with a tachometer, just in front of the familiar GM horizontal speedometer, this one going to 120 mph. Vertical vent levers top an AM/FM/CD radio with an AUX and USB interface and the stock radio is included with the sale. But the real action is down below where a four gauge cluster is mounted under the dash to monitor whats going on on the other side of the firewall. A Hurst shifter rises from the floor, neatly covered in black loop carpet under the canopy of a fine looking headliner. The trunk has a rubber mat and a jack and thats about it! Drivetrain A clean and tidy 383ci stroker is up front housing a Comp Cam XR282HR with .510i/.520e lift and 230i/236e duration @050. Flo-Tek aluminum heads are onboard while the manifold is topped with an Edelbrock 650cfm 4-barrel carburetor. The engine exhales through coated Patriot headers and is put into motion via a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission, (with a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing), sending power to the rebuilt rear 10 bolt and 3.55 gears with Positraction. Power brakes are included as front discs and rear drums. Of note, the engine bay is spotless and features polished M/T valve covers. Undercarriage Overall stupendously clean underneath with minimal surface rust, clear knuckles, and only a few drops of oil on the pan, flywheel cover, and transmission. The big dual exhaust flows from the headers to a pair of Turbo mufflers before exiting unceremoniously under the car just before the rear bumper. Suspension here consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs with Caltracs bars in the back. Drive-Ability The 383 fires up with a mighty roar and the orange X-body makes its way to the test loop where it demonstrates acceleration and power on tap, straight tracking and crisp shifts. Did we mention power steering? Are we deterred by the flat, bench seat? Not at all, especially knowing our date can hang close by. Meanwhile, we note that were not getting heat from the vents, but all other functions on this well-built car work as they should. The Rally Nova was primarily an appearance package, and many have called it a would be muscle car.
