1972 Chevrolet Malibu
Car for sale by Carroll St Auto & Collectibles in Manchester, New Hampshire 03102
From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
On offer here is a 1972 Chevelle Malibu 350 with less than 82,000 original miiles that offers the best of all worlds. Stunning in its original Orange Flame paint accented with a black vinyl top, the car now sports a set of 15-inch Centerline wheels fitted with meaty rubber for the proper stance. The original 14-inch Rally wheels go with the car.
In addition to the eye catching color scheme, this Malibu came loaded with factory options. Highlights include 350 V8, vinyl top, Rally wheels, front/rear bumper guards, tinted glass, A/C, power steering/brakes and AM-FM radio. Scrutinize the body and youll note this car boasts its original rear quarters, floors and trunk, the latter with its original spatter paint and all in excellent condition. The interior is likewise original and pristine with its rare cloth upholstery.
Under the hood youll find serious motivation. Rather than the original 350 2-barrel making just 165 horsepower there is a ZZ4 350 crate motor cranking out a robust 435 horses. Highlights include aluminum heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake topped by a Holley 750 double pumper, an HEI distributor and Hooker headers sending the exhaust out through a 3-inch dual system with throaty Flowmaster mufflers.
All that power goes through not the original 3-speed but rather a 4-speed automatic (700r4) with a shift kit for firm, positive gearchanges. The rear end is a beefed-up 12 bolt with 4.11 Positraction. That combination provides ripping acceleration along with relaxed cruising at highway speeds. Make no mistake, this Malibu coupe would have no problem showing its four taillights to most any SS, GTO, Road Runner or Mach 1.
Other components have been refurbished or upgraded to ensure the Chevelle drives and handles better than when it was new. There are now power front discs (versus the original drums), a new master cylinder, new body mounts, solid trailing arms, new shocks, new ball joints and new steering and control arm bushings. As youd rightfully expect, the Malibu simply drives fantastic.
