1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
Coupe Car for sale in SPRINGFIELD, Virginia 22150
The Chevrolet Chevelle is one of the most iconic muscle cars around.
Chevrolet introduced the Chevelle in 1963 as a 1964 model. Though quite large by today's standards, it was classified as a midsize car. What wasn't midsize was the level of passion garnered from the very beginning, a passion that has continued for decades.

I have owned this car since 1982 and getting to old to work on cars, therefor I am putting this car up for auction. The car has been well maintained. The engine is warmed up to operating temperature before driving or at least once a week. The car is in running condition. The car has been maintained as stock as possible, no high performance equipment. This is not a super sport SS car. The original 8 cylinder 307 engine was carefully rebuilt because it is a good engine. Automatic transmission. I do not run the car when it is raining or chemicals are present on the roads. This has helped to maintain the floor as well as it is today. . I am at least the third owner of this car, and as far as I know, engine and rear axle came with the car from the factory. Vin number plate attached and visible at the front window. Car has an air conditioner that needs freon. The Freon left and that old type of Freon is not available anymore. Parking brake not in working order. I am also including some jack parts, not sure these are original to the car. All windows original. Brake shoes replaced. I have found the key to the glove compartment and it does lock but I had trouble getting it open again so best to leave it unlocked until it can be fixed.Body
Front grill was replaced. Body has surface rust, there is rust on the bumpers, one of the fenders has a hole. Some of the metal has rusted away around the wheel wells on the body. Like almost all Chevelles from this period there is rust around the rear window and rain leaks in the back, therefore, I use a car cover. A couple small pin holes in the floor under the steering wheel. I discovered a small pin hole in the trunk. The front seat has been re-covered. The rear seat is original and starting to rot. Roof lining almost totally gone. The rugs are gone, Just the bare floor. Door panels need replacing. Rear deck panel gone, just the bare metal showing.
New locks have been installed in the doors and work. The trunk lock was also replaced with a new lock and matches the door locks. Rear view mirror is starting to go dark with streaking and needs to be replaced. Previous owner cut holes for speakers in side panels below dash. Head rests are included. Seat belts were replaced with GM seat belts. Only two belts installed on front seat. Trunk lid will not stay up. Rear bumper has holes where CB radio antenna was installed. Original windows, trunk lid, hood.
Original 307 engine. Rebuilt. A large radiator has been installed and also a large battery. Engine was converted to unleaded gas when rebuilt. Single exhaust pipe. Converted to unleaded gas when engine was rebuilt. I only run 93 octane unleaded fuel, and this is what you should use in the car. Locking gas cap, with key. Odometer has already gone around once.
Automatic transmission has been replaced. Shift on steering column, as came from the factory. There is a small box like a radiator core behind the grill, which may be used for transmission cooling. I am not sure what it does. Panel lights for gear shift not lighting, probably burnt out bulb. It’s not easy to get to those bulbs in the dash, etc.Cooling System
there is a water leak around the thermostat probably the gasket is not sealing and the heater coil needs replacing and some leakage because the hose has been routed off the heater coil and the hose is larger than the connection. Water pump recently replaced. Stock fan and fan shroud.
Fuel and Exhaust Systems
Runs on high octane unleaded gas. Single exhaust pipe.
No longer installed.
Originally came with power steering. The power steering mechanism failed and was rebuilt as manual steering. Steering column has been replaced. 10 bolt rear.
Drum brakes all around and have been replaced. Master cylinder replaced.
Original Delco AM FM push button radio installed. Operates intermittently. Sometimes when taking off the dash cover the radio works fine, then when re-installing the cover the probem returns. The turn signal works intermittently when idling. Dome light not working, missing bulb and cover. Some dash lights are not working. Large amp battery installed and wires converted to top post. Battery wire colors reversed, ie, red to ground and black to alternator. I could not find the correct wires. Back up lenses have been replaced. Horn generic replacement not OE. Horn button on steering column not working. A horn button has been routed under the dash to make the horn operable.
Standard suspension. Bumper has nozzles for air shocks, which were installed at one time, now replaced with standard shock absorbers,
Tires Michelin MCH205/75R14. Tires are Michelin radials, replaced recently, low mileage and the spare is also new and has never been driven on and is full size. No hubcaps.
The windshield washer control broke off and was reinstalled but is not like it was when new. Horn button does not work, a replacement button has been installed under the dash. Cigarette lighter included but does not work. Possibly still 12 volts going to the lighter. Dash cover has factory dual speakers and roughly 3 inch split in the center.
