VW Kombi Van Seeing Resurgence in Popularity

The Volkswagen Kombi van reached iconic status, with even a school lunch box fashioned in its image. During those early years, the Volkswagen Microbus morphed into various forms. Classic Car Overview

1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Upgraded, restored Ghia with a California Look Burgundy exterior with gray cloth interior Rebuilt 1914cc flat, air-cooled four-cylinder engine with big dual Weber 44 carbs and 110 Crane cam VW ribbed Bus Four-speed manual transmission backed by a Super Differential Front disc brakes and Vintage Speed exhaust Classic VDO gauges, SunPro tachometer, Petri Banjo steering wheel with Zodiac hub Full custom interior with backseat Bumper guards with overriders, full wheel covers, amber Hella fog lights, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights and LED lights TRW suspension and Firestone wide whitewall tires with rare NOS trim rings Karmann Ghias have retained their beauty through the decades and this example is more gorgeous than most. This Ghia has been upgraded and restored and is one quick little Volkswagen! Made in Osnabr ck, West Germany and dressed in burgundy, this car s paint and trim are in overall excellent condition. The bodywork is straight, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the frunk is immaculate and comes with a full-sized spare tire and matching wheel and wheel cover. The chrome, wraparound bumpers with overriders shine brightly and serve as a contrast to the paint hue. A pair of amber Hella fog lights perch over the front bumper and there are high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights and LED lights but the foglights are inoperable. This Ghia rolls on Firestone wide whitewall gum-dipped tires at every corner, size 5.60-15. Each tire is mounted to a steel wheel and topped by a full, factory wheel cover. The wheel covers are in excellent order while the tires are in very good condition. Out back is a rebuilt 1914cc flat, air-cooled four-cylinder engine with large dual Weber 44 carburetors and breathing via a pair of modified dual exhausts from Vintage Speed and Crane 110 cam. Backing this motor is a upgraded Bus ribbed four-speed manual transmission and a Super Differential. Driver conveniences include front disc brakes. Inside, a full custom interior replaces the original. Up front are a pair of sumptuous-looking bucket seats with a companion rear bench, all done in two-tone gray cloth. Gray carpet covers the floorpan and the inner door panels are two-tone gray while another shade of gray covers the burgundy metal instrument panel, above and below the Classic VDO gauges. In addition, there s a SunPro tachometer tucked away for the driver s eyes only and an exquisite Petri Banjo steering wheel with the most unique hub the 12 Zodiac signs ring the hub s perimeter. A Blaupunkt three-band radio completes the interior. Exterior changes in 1961 included wider and finned front grilles, taller and more rounded rear taillights and headlights relocated to a higher position with previous models and their lower headlight placement called lowlights. The Italian designer Sergio Sartorelli, designer of Type 34, oversaw the various re-stylings of Type 14. In 1970, larger taillights integrated the reversing lights and larger wrap-around turn signals. Still larger and wider taillights increased side visibility. Competition to this VW in 1971 included Chevrolet s Vega notchback, Ford s Pinto two-door, and Porsche s 914. VIN: 1412358127? This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri.
