By 1971, the Jaguar E-Type had already secured its place among the worlds great sports cars, representing a decade of continuous refinement since its sensational debut at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. Widely praised for its combination of advanced engineering, breathtaking styling, and remarkable value, the E-Type quickly became the benchmark by which other sports cars were judged. The 1971 model belonged to the final years of the Series II, developed to meet evolving safety and emissions regulations while retaining the performance and elegance that defined the model. Power came from Jaguars legendary 4.2-litre dual-overhead-cam inline-six, paired with fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, innovations that helped place the E-Type well ahead of many contemporaries. Subtle revisions, including improved cooling, a more comfortable interior, and updated lighting and safety equipment, enhanced its usability without diminishing its character. Today, the 1971 Jaguar E-Type remains one of Britains most celebrated sports cars, admired for its timeless design, engineering excellence, and enduring collector appeal.

One of the finest E-Type Jaguar coupes, this striking example is the recipient of a highly documented, comprehensive restoration that took close to ten years to complete. A true labor of love, Doug Ehmann, a skilled restorer and devoted Jaguar enthusiast, didnt just want any E-Type, he wanted the very best. Taking a reported 2,350 hours, every single part, component, and item was disassembled, cleaned, replaced, or restored. The elegant body was left to Ron Yearger to find every little imperfection and smooth it out to better-than-new condition. The body was painted Signal Red by Mark Gregory at East Coast Restorations while the bumpers and trim were re-chromed by Librandis Custom Chrome Plating in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Rounding out its appearance, a new beige upholstery kit by Suffolk & Turley was chosen and the comfortable seats were retrimmed in leather by Classic Jaguar.

Documented by its accompanying Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, the numbers-matching 4.2-litre inline-six motor was completely disassembled. An original-appearing newer head from a Jaguar XJ6 was installed for better performance, as the head has larger valves. An all-new CoolCat radiator and Bell stainless-steel exhaust system were also installed. The fuel system was completely rebuilt and a new fuel tank, fuel pump, lines, and fittings were added. With every single part tended to, the final assembly of the engine was entrusted to Lippincotts Garage, a Jaguar-specific restoration shop. Much like the rest of the car, the front and rear suspension was completely rebuilt with new bearings, seals, bushings, shock absorbers, tie rods, and a whole new braking system was mounted; a fantastic outcome allowing for the next owner to acquire a ready-to-be-driven Jaguar.

Completed in 2020, this E-Type was featured in the Jaguar Journal, the publication of the Jaguar Club of North America and would win an AACA Senior award in 2021.
