Classic Car Overview
Introducing Hondas first production vehicle for the US, the N600. In 1969 Honda started the export of the N600 to Hawaii, followed by exports to the Westcoast states in 1970. The Honda N600 was the first Honda car to be officially imported into the United States and were initially sold through its motorcycle retail network. The N600 weighs in at just 1300 pounds and has a 45HP, 598cc air-cooled, SOHC parallel-twin motor paired to a 4-Speed manual gearbox. The Honda N600 was more or less in a class of its own. Honda decided to target young Americans wanting to upgrade from their C100 Super Cub motorcycles. The N600 had a price tag of $1,395 dollars when it was launched, making it very affordable. The N600 had a 6.9 gallon fuel tank and could achieve 31mpg which was outstanding for its day as the fuel crisis would come into full swing a few short years later.
This 1971 N600 Coupe built in July of 1970 and sent to the USA. The current owner acquired the car in June of 2021 as a running, driving car and then commissioned Shamrock Motorsport of Arlington, WA to perform a complete disassembly bare-shell restoration beginning in late 2021 and completed in mid 2024. The total cost exceeded $130,000 as the owner wanted to have the finest N600 around! The color was changed from Red to the current very vibrant Signal Blue and many custom touches were added. All areas of the car were addressed including; rebuilding the engine, overhauling the carburetor, suspension/shocks/springs/bushings/axles, new tires, rare 10-inch Cosmic alloy wheels were sourced, new fuel tank, new wire harness, new hubs, new brakes, new exhaust, heater box refurbished, sound deadening installed, new windshield, all chrome replated, new lenses, and H4 headlamp upgrade. The interior was fully redone and customized with beautiful crème leather covering the seats, door panels, dash top, e-brake boot, sunvisors, and even the headliner! Heating for both front seats was added and there are buttons for High/Low settings on either side of the dash. The carpets are all new and extend to the trunk. All rubber seals were replaced, and a modern stereo with Bluetooth was fitted. New modern seat belts have also been installed up front.
This has to be the best N600 in the marketplace and is ready for the show circuit, or is great to buzz around town in and guaranteed to generate many smiles and thumbs up when you drive by, it also sparks many conversations when parked and will gather crowds and any car show you take it to.
