Given that the 21st century has seen a sort of return to the roots aspect for the Mustang, it was probably only a matter of time before the Boss 302 made a return. Over the last few years there's been steady and growing interest in the concept of a new-age Trans Am Special.
Jim Clarke led the charge with the creation of the 5.0 HO V8 for the Mustang in 1982 and was responsible for the continuous improvement of the 5.0 throughout the '80s. What Jim and his team accomplished is truly amazing.
Classic Car Overview
Hi! Health issues force me to sell my lemon yellow 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 restomod project car I've been working on inintermittently for nearly 25 years. I bought the Mustang in 1994, and daily drove it til the original motor died in 2002. Started to fully restore and customize her in 2004 and on as funds allowed, but she hasn't galloped since. She had a rough life before me, but I saved her from the scrapyard. A lot of work has been done to this car, but a lot more needs to be finished. That's where you come in...
She was born in 1971 with metallic green paint and a black interior, powered by a 351C-2V and a C4 automatic, all of which failed at some point and are now long gone...
Drivetrain: No motor or transmission, so ready for your choice of engine and tranny, automatic or stick. No driveshaft, but does have a sweet new custom built 9" rear end with 3.91 gears, limited slip differential, and Tom's 31-spline heavy duty axles! Smoothed and painted engine bay.
Interior: Comes with original black plastic panels and trim in fair condition (a couple 6x9 speaker holes, scratches and dings), all disassembled. Whole dash is apart, Most original dash pieces/bezels/glove compartment door included. Newer black molded front carpet. Car has no rear seat, instead has custom welded-in roll bar. No front seats. New installed black headliner. The interior is mostly gutted but I have almost all of the important panels and trim. Comes with new matching trunk/door/ignition key and lock set with new ignition.
Exterior: All body panels OEM and straight, NACA hood with springs, no repop. Paint is good but has some minor dings on driver's door. No front bumper or valance. New chrome rear bumper. Rare 1999 Mustang GT-R wing on deck lid (right side edge trim broken in two and duct taped, but made of fiberglass and easily repairable or replaced with plastic).
Electrical: Has new Painless 21pt wiring harness, wiring started but not finished. Rear end wiring complete. Battery relocated to box in trunk, heavy duty cables, but battery probably needs replacing. New headlights in restored boxes.
Fuel: New 20 gallon gas tank w electric fuel pump, inline high flow gas filter, 1/2" fuel line, custom in-trunk fuel filler.
Suspension: Heavy duty front and rear sway bars. All 4 corners have new Gabriel Gas-adjust shocks. New Hi-lift rear leaf springs, arched 1.5" higher to lift back end. Front and rear suspension rebuilt, new ball joints, with all new rubber and polyurethane bushings. Front coils are new blue heavy duty 600 lb. lowering springs with a 1" drop.
Brakes: Comes with new brake booster and master cylinder, new brake lines, new Wilwood brake adjuster located next to driver. Stock but rebuilt new rear drums and front disc brakes.
Partial restoration/customization, has new floor pans, welded-in subframe connectors, and 2.5" exhaust with dual Flowmaster 3-chamber mufflers, chrome exhaust tips.
Car has always been garaged since restoration began in 2002. Car has NO RUST! Several boxes of miscellaneous original parts. No rims, just on spares, but she still rolls! You'll need a flatbed or large trailer to get her to her new home...
Available custom parts off the car include: New in box Edelbrock 750 cfm chrome low-rise carburetor. New twin electric cooling fan with radiator probe, pair of newer Simpson black 5pt. racing harness/seatbelts. New Autometer tach, speedo, oil, battery, temp gauges, not installed. New black dash pad still in box. Extra large new Summit 2-row aluminum radiator with Griffin cap. New chrome custom overflow tank. 2 custom built real braided steel heater hoses. Complete new weatherstripping kit. New aftermarket black plastic rear window louvers. New black plastic chin spoiler. Much more, must see to appreciate!
Registered currently as Non-Op in CA. Clear title otherwise. Pink slip in hand, just simply go to DMV once she's running and street legal and register her, no penalty.
I have over 20k in restoration so far, but my medical issues prevent me from finishing her. My bad luck can be your gain! Will sell car and all listed parts, basically everything I have, for $9000, or will sell car as-is (with all original interior pieces and original parts I have included), but without available other custom parts, for $7500. All must go, so reasonable offers will be considered.
