From around 1956 until the mid 1980s, Dodge, Plymouth and even Chrysler squads were the most ubiquitous police cars in North America. In fact, the biggest department, the NYPD, used Plymouth and Dodge squads almost exclusively until the rear-drive M body car was finally axed in 1989.
The no-frills Savoy two-door sedan was home to another engine of considerable repute, the infamous 413 Max Wedge, a Super Stock monster block Chrysler introduced in the spring of 1962.
Classic Car Overview
Starting with a super clean Dart Sport Coupe this car was restored and transformed into a Demon. Just prior to coming to Volo it was inspected by a known old car fix it shop. The car is in great working order. EXTERIOR: It is a looker. Painted Sublime green with scoops, spoilers and stripes it will get noticed. The body is actually really clean thats why they chose this car to restore. I tell you what, Mopar was not known for high quality control on their bodys. This one has excellent gaps around the doors, trunk and hood. They are square and flush. Doors shut like new. Very smooth and glossy paint. Jambs are painted real nice, new sill plates and weatherstrips. The hood has stripes, scoops and pins. The sides have dual stripes, Demon decals and racing mirrors. In back it has new spoiler and blacked out tail panel with Demon decals. A set of 15 inch chrome Cragar wheels, faster in back give it a muscle look. Bumpers, stainless around the windows and the wheels look new. Grill is restored. INTERIOR: The interior is very tidy, neat as a pin. The upholstery looks brand new, front and back seats. The headliner, rear speaker tray, dash pad are new. The instrument area and steering wheel are excellent, has upgraded stereo. Door panels and armrest look new. Really, inside this car is detailed. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine compartment is show quality. The entire engine bay and the bottom side of the hood is all painted smooth and glossy just like the exterior. The VIN number stamped on the core support matches the car, the fender tag is original. 340 engine looks spotless, has a clean coat of paint. New aluminum high rise intake, new big Holley carb and new MSD ignition system. Also has a set of headers. As a matter of fact all the components look fresh- the alternator, horns, battery and cables, plug wires, fan shroud etc. The washer bottle is still hooked up. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Has very clean metal thats been very neatly spatter painted. Somebody neatly trimmed up a carpet liner to. The bottom of the trunk lid and a jamb are painted as nice as the outside of the car, has new weatherstrip. UNDERSIDE: Very solid. Floors look original, not cut up or rusted. Even the lower inner 1/4s are clean with original drain plugs. The little tabs are still on the bottom of the factory 1/4s too. Everything looks in order- front end components are good, e-brake cables are hooked up, dual exhaust is not that old. Bottom of motor is clean. 727 Torqueflite trans looks clean.
