Classic Car Overview

1971 goes down in Mopar history as the final year for the Dodge Charger R/T, one of the muscle car eras most important nameplates. This exemplary example brings plenty of R/T magic together in one package. The 1971 Dodge Charger R/T was distinguished by its louvered dome hood with flat black accent paint and R/T logo decal. Additional features included bold horizontal bodyside stripes and heavy-duty suspension. And the hood is more than just a power bulge. In keeping with the Dodge Chargers performance tradition, a new Ramcharger vacuum-operated hood scoop was available and provided cooler ambient air into the engine for improved power and performance. All of that cool hood scoop hardware is here on this car. Thats a good thing too, because with 440 cubic inches to fill, this engine needs plenty of air. This 440 Magnum has an Edelbrock/Magneti Marelli 4-barrel on an Edelbrock aluminum intake - a proven combination for power and reliability. The engine is based on the very desirable 73 440 block - desirable because its construction and sturdiness performs well in high horsepower applications. The drivetrain is up to the task as well with the race proven and highly respected Torqueflite automatic and a SureGrip 8 - inch rear with 4.10 gears. This Charger really charges off the line! The car also has many new components in key places. Things like the rear leaf springs, drum brakes, the steering system, and shocks are all newer items that directly impact the driveability of this mighty Mopar. It sports its original bright red color, plus power steering and power front disc brakes. Black spoilers fore and aft, plus a black vinyl top - together with the hood and stripes - finish off a very distinctive exterior package. Highlights of the black vinyl interior include comfortable bucket seats and a woodgrain center console with the T-handle floor shifter. The dash picks up the woodgrain motif, and it houses all the factory gauges including a large, easy to read tach. The 1971 Charger was a bold move for Dodge as it was a radical redesign of a successful car. But the 71 was a huge success also, and the performance heritage is fully intact. The new body style graced such iconic Funny Cars as Roland Leongs Hawaiian, Gene Snows Snowman, and Phil Castronovos awesome Custom Body Mini Charger. There were famous Stockers and Super Stockers from the Rod Shop and Dave and Judy Boertman. Legends like Buddy Baker tooled one around the NASCAR circuit. And The King himself, Richard Petty, campaigned a 71 Charger and said it was one of the best looking race cars ever. Indeed, the 1971 Dodge Charger R/T holds a place of honor in muscle car lore, and its certainly a favorite among Mopar collectors. Heres your chance to make history.
