1971 Chevrolet Corvette
Convertible Car for sale by Auto Archeologist in Middletown, Connecticut 06457
The 1967 Corvette is considered the most-loved Corvette ever produced. The combination of classic C2 styling, along with an incredible array of powertrain and comfort options, makes it one of the most desirable Corvettes ever. Not bad for a car that was never supposed to be made!
The ZR-1's production run from 1990-95 was one of the most exciting times for Corvette enthusiasts in recent memory. In the mid-1980s, rumors of a "King of the Hill" Corvette began to leak out of Detroit and into America's speed shops and dealerships.
Classic Car Overview
Original Condition, 1971 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, 454 LS5, close ratio 4 speed.
Purchased brand new in Windsor, CT back in 1971 by Mr. Page, he ordered up pretty much all the options you could get on a Vette in 71. Air Conditioning, hard top, LS 5 454 V8, tilt wheel, power brakes, power steering, power windows and the deluxe/leather interior. The Saddle leather interior was wrapped in Ontario Orange metallic paint, which it still wears today.. original paint.
The car was sold in the mid 80's to his neighbor, the uncle of the current owner. In 1997, the current owner purchased the Corvette from his uncle. A couple years later, with almost 100,000 miles on the car, the nephew pulled the original, numbers matching engine, and had it rebuilt; at the same time, he did the brakes (calipers and rotors) and installed new KYB shocks, front and rear. Since 1997, the current owner has only put roughly 4000 miles on the car, driving it only locally, out to shows and mostly cruise nights, quick rides out for ice cream, etc. The car has been well serviced and gets fresh oil and filter every year, with the most recent oil and filter change just a couple of weeks ago.
This car is one of just 2200 +/- that came in Ontario Orange, with the big block and the close ratio, M21 4 speed manual and in convertible. That is out of nearly 22,000 sold that year.
This car is all original, aside from regular wear & tear items and currently shows just over 103,000 miles overall but less than 5000 miles on the rebuilt engine.
Being an original car, means there are some small nicks in the paint, an area on the right front valance/fender where a small truck rubbed up against it when backing up and scratched the paint.. it was touched up. The chrome is good and looks very shiny, the left rear bumperette does show some minor pitting. The interior is in very nice condition and feels like a well worn glove. The leather seats show some wear but are not torn, the carpets are in great shape and all electronic work correctly. The lights open and close easily and stay closed. The AC, while still all hooked up, has had the belt removed due to overheating while being used if in slow moving traffic. It is unknown whether it still works or will need a recharge of R12.
The frame and under body show only minor surface corrosion but shows no perforations at all.
Although not concours quality, this car is a true survivor and in original condition.
The big block runs very strong and pulls nicely through all gears.
A fun cruiser that can be immediately enjoyed as is, and continued to be taken out to cruise nights, etc. or an awesome basis for a complete restoration... However, it's only original once.
Asking price on this beautiful example of an early 70's American sports car is $48,000.
