The Most Desirable Corvette Ever?

The 1967 Corvette is considered the most-loved Corvette ever produced. The combination of classic C2 styling, along with an incredible array of powertrain and comfort options, makes it one of the most desirable Corvettes ever. Not bad for a car that was never supposed to be made!

The ZR-1's production run from 1990-95 was one of the most exciting times for Corvette enthusiasts in recent memory. In the mid-1980s, rumors of a "King of the Hill" Corvette began to leak out of Detroit and into America's speed shops and dealerships.

Classic Car Overview

Although the third-generation Corvette (aka the C3 ) was produced from 1968 through 1982, few versions hold as much sway among Corvette enthusiasts as the early ones. This was, after all, when the C3s performance was at its peak.

One of the most desirable early C3s has to be the one-year-only 1971 LS6. Those three characters indicated that nothing less than the optional 425-horsepower, 454-cubic inch beast resided under the Corvettes long hood. Sporting aluminum heads (unlike the LS6 option in the 1970 Chevelle SS) and with only 188 ever produced in that single year of production, a 1971 LS6 Corvette is a very rare sight. And of those 188 only an estimated 40 were produced with an automatic transmission; this is one of those ultra-rare automatic LS6s.

Culled from an incredible collection of C3s, this 1971 Corvette LS6 is an amazing example. The car underwent a ground-up restoration by the Naber Brothers, renown in the Corvette community for their high-end, award-winning restorations and the Corvette was refinished in its correct Brands Hatch Green.

As expected, the body is in factory fresh condition, with the chrome bumpers and other brightwork boasting as pristine a finish as the paint. Even the tires, era-correct Firestone Wide Ovals, make this car look as if it just rolled out of the brochure. Underneath it is so clean that it earns our lasagna car designation, meaning wed gladly eat lasagna off of the frame rails and floors.

Inside, the leather seats are supple with firm foam cushions and no scuffs or tears on the leather. The door panels, dash, T top liners and carpeting are likewise impressive while the instruments are crystal clear. In other words, the interior is as nice as the exterior.

Rebuilt to factory specs during the restoration, the original 454 LS6 V8 looks and sounds fantastic. Even the A.I.R. system and the correct deep groove pulley for the alternator are found upon close inspection under the hood. The TH400 delivers positive gear changes as it sends the power to the 3.08-geared rear end. The suspension and brakes were also rebuilt to as-new specification, contributing to the massive fun factor of this big block bruiser.

In addition to the LS6/automatic powertrain, other option highlights include power steering, power windows, tilt/telescopic steering wheel, AM/FM stereo and the custom interior trim (leather seating along with deluxe door panels with wood-tone accents).

Plenty of paperwork accompanies the car, including awards galore such as NCRS Top Flight 2000 (97.7 points), Bloomington Gold 2018, the Bloomington Gold Shark Collection exhibit 2018 as well as the NCRS Shipping Data Report. Other documents include the Protect-O-Plate, owners manual, 1971 Corvette brochure and a reproduction window sticker.

Top to bottom, front to back, this is simply an amazing example of a very rare and highly decorated 1971 Corvette LS6 coupe.
