Classic Car Overview
You often hear the phrase time capsule used to describe a classic car. While this is sometimes just a verbal disguise for neglect and disrepair, that is definitely not the case here. This 1971 Riviera has been very well cared for and takes you back five decades to when Buicks dramatic boat-tail design was introduced. Showing 51k miles, it is an unmolested example that looks great and offers an extraordinary ride.
This car belonged to a Buick dealership owner for the past 25 years. It has an excellent rust-free body wearing its original sheetmetal along with most of its original code 74 Vintage Red paint. It also appears to have its original code A white vinyl top which is in remarkable condition. All chrome and trim looks great too. The wheels have been replaced with 15 Rallye pieces for a sporty flair, but the original steel wheels and covers are included.
For 1971 all Rivieras were equipped with a 455ci 4-barrel engine rated at 315 hp and a healthy 450 ft-lb of torque. The engine feeds a TH400 automatic transmission followed by a 12-bolt rear end with highway-friendly 2.93 gears. Everything is stock in design without any modifications. The brakes, steering, and suspension are all in good mechanical condition and contribute to this cars outstanding ride quality. Recent service includes a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shock absorbers, and machined rotors and drums. The dual exhaust has also been replaced.
The black interior is in amazing condition throughout. The black vinyl bucket seats flank a center console with woodgrain highlights that extend to the door panels and steering wheel spokes. The dashboard uses engine turned inserts around the controls and gauges. Be sure to see all the pictures while remembering this is an unrestored car from 1971! With the exception of the package tray defog fan, all of the main features are present and functional including the clock. Additionally, this example has a working factory cruise control and speed alarm. Nice! The air conditioning has been converted to R420A and blows cool but not ice cold. The trunk contains a proper spare tire and bumper jack.
A person has many choices when searching for a classic car. This one presents a strong case on three fronts. As a boat-tail Rivera, it is a gorgeous design and one of the most alluring shapes of its era. Second, it is in remarkable overall condition with a high degree of originality. And finally, this Riviera is truly a pleasure to drive with plenty of room and far more comfort than you might imagine. Wouldn't you love to cruise home in this one?
