1970 Volkswagen Vans

This 1970 Volkswagen Transporter is a one-of-a-kind gem. Produced in Germany on Wednesday September 3rd 1969 as a panel/delivery van with a port of call of Washington DC, this Early Bay Window Bus (Type 2/T2) was transformed into a unique pop-top camper van in the United States.

It is outfitted with a Riviera-style interior complete with a bench seat that folds out into a full bed, a collapsible dining table, closet and bedside storage, over the bed storage, jump seat storage, a reupholstered single person sleeping cot (made of sail material) unfurls when the pop-top is extended, and an inset electrical outlet that allows shore power to be available inside the camper. The vinyl floor (and subfloor) in the camper section is new, and the bench and jump seats have been reupholstered. The interior also features brushed aluminum window and pop-top flashing. The camper windows open from either end for easy cross ventilation, and the windows’ exterior are equipped with outside screens, The extended pop-top sides are the original vinyl tenting and contain two screened windows with Velcro covers. A Volkswagen Side Tent is also included to complete your camping experience!

This iconic Volkswagen is equipped with a Single Port 1641cc Type 2 four cylinder engine, a four-speed manual transmission, Hancook P215 75R14 tires on wide pattern wheel rims with half-moon hubcaps, a front-mounted spare tire with OEM jack, two-speed windshield wipers, and seat belts. The engine compartment seal is new, the vehicle has OEM manifold heat, the engine’s air filter is the original oil breather, the back engine hatch can be locked, the accelerator and clutch cables have been kept up to date, the cab’s floor shifter has an extension for easier shifting, all door handles and locks work, the pop top camper seal is new, and the sliding side door is equipped with an aftermarket running board step. The cab includes a between-the-seats storage compartment with cup holders, the original Beige Leatherette door panels and seats, a reupholstered headliner, and the original steering wheel and dash are in excellent shape. Also, the radio has been upgraded to a Pioneer 4-speaker sound system with CD player and USB port.

All systems work on this classic vehicle! The brake system has been kept up through routine maintenance and rebuilding, including a working emergency brake. Steering System has been replaced from the steering box to the linkage so that you won’t drift on the roadway when driving, and the electrical system is intact: including headlights, running lights, blinkers, high/low beam, interior cab light, and fuse box. The body, undercarriage, and front floor pans are in excellent shape. This highly collectible vehicle is available in Cosmic Gruen (green) on an “as-is” basis for $26,420. The vehicle’s title is clean, and the buyer is responsible for all shipping logistics and costs.

The current owner purchased this well-loved Microbus in 1994, so the vehicle’s excellent condition is well documented by parts/mechanics receipts, and the personal experience of repairing/maintaining the vehicle.
