Classic Car Overview

This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle is a European market example that was first sold in Germany and reportedly imported by the original owner to California. The car was refurbished under previous ownership in 2022 with work that included repainting the body Clementine Orange, reupholstering the interior in white basketweave pattern vinyl, refreshing the brakes and suspension components, and overhauling the air-cooled 1.6L flat-four. Additional details include a four-speed manual transaxle, 15 steel wheels, drum brakes, low-back front bucket seats, a body-color dashboard, European-specification taillight lenses, chrome bumpers, and dual pea shooter exhaust outlets.

The fenders and glass were removed and the body was reportedly stripped to bare metal in preparation for dent removal, metalwork, and a repaint in Clementine Orange (L20D) under previous ownership. Exterior details include a left side-view mirror, polished window trim, European-specification taillight lenses, dual pea shooter exhaust outlets, and chrome bumpers.

Black and white 15 steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Kumho Power Star 758 tires. Braking is handled by drums at all four corners. The ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, shocks, brake shoes, hoses, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder were reportedly replaced under previous ownership.

The low-back front bucket seats and rear bench have been re-trimmed in white basket weave pattern vinyl and are joined by color-coordinated door panels, salt-and-pepper carpeting, and a gray rubber floor mat. Interior elements include a body-color dashboard, front shoulder belts, rear lap belts, a Fulton push-button AM/FM radio, and a lockable glove compartment.

The two-spoke steering wheel wears a chrome horn ring with a Wolfsburg crest center cap and frames a 90-mph VDO speedometer with an inset fuel level gauge. The odometer was broken and needed to be replaced. The original five-digit mechanical odometer shows 65k miles. The replacement odometer was set to 63K miles. True mileage is unknown.

The air-cooled 1.6L (B6) flat-four utilizes a dual relief engine case equipped with single port cylinder heads and was overhauled under previous ownership in 2022. Work consisted of grinding the cam and crank, refurbishing the cylinder heads, and replacing the pistons and cylinders, lifters, bearings, and seals. At that time, the Solex carburetor was rebuilt and the fuel pump and distributor were serviced. The fuel lines and vacuum hoses were replaced under previous ownership.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Patches are present in the floor pan.
