This recently restored 1970 Toyota FJ40 has outdoor fun written all over it. The light blue paint has a smooth and shiny finish that tells you its a fresh application. This highlights the exceptional panel quality. Plus, all the details look great, like the fresh rubber bumper caps, bright locking pins for the hood & windshield, and the correct factory wheel covers on color matched wheels (including on the rear-mounted full-sized spare.) The new vinyl soft top fits snug, and you have the choice of rolling up different sides. So you can choose between having a little shade from the sun, to full weather protection. Of course, what we really love is that you can get this one open to the world quicker than the removable hardtop examples. And when you do take the top down, you get a very bold presence. The orange seating against the light blue makes it look like the famous Gulf Racing livery if they took on the Baja. Just like the exterior, there was a solid investment inside, so the bold orange is fresh on the front bench, rear jump seats, and even details like the shift boots. Plus, this comes with some nice upgrades like an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and cold-blowing air conditioning to keep you comfortable even with the top down. Under the hood is a year-correct 3.9-liter motor, and it was rebuilt as part of the restoration. With so few miles (500 km is approx. 310 miles) this basically looks factory fresh. Even the undercarriage photos show off the kind of pristine presentation a full frame-off restoration gets you. But remember these were made for driving. And this kind of huge investment in the motor means it fires up nicely, which makes the already tough-as-nails reputation of this powerplant even more attractive in this example. This torque-filled motor combined with the two-speed 4x4 transfer case makes for a true go-anywhere machine. And the upgrade to a four-speed manual transmission means extra versatility on or off-road.
