Classic Car Overview
1970 Shelby GT500 428 Super Cobra Jet w/Four Speed Manual Trans and Drag Pack option (NUMBERS MATCHING)
Extremely rare, only “1 of 7” 1970 Shelbys that came from the factory with Grabber Blue paint, 428 ‘Super’ Cobra Jet motor with a Four-speed manual transmission and the Drag Pack option (there were just 380 total GT500 Fastbacks produced in 1970).
This Shelby GT500 428SCJ was one of the first cars to ever be sprayed with Ford’s Grabber Blue paint!
Much of this GT500 has been restored, but as much as could be left original, is still original (see pictures). Don’t forget to ask for pictures of the car taken down to the metal during the restoration process (done in 2005).
Extensive historical records come with this Shelby, including previous owners’ phone numbers, addresses, and testimonies of the time they had with the car. Also included are restoration receipts from previous owners and the current owner.
The autograph on the glove box is none other than Brock Yates, senior editor of Car and Driver Magazine. He is most well known for being the creator of the now infamous Cannonball Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (a.k.a. The Cannonball Run); a flat out, no-holds-barred race from New York City to Redondo Beach, California.
According to the Shelby Registry this Shelby was (1 of 6) Shelbys that was picked up at Kar Kraft (Brighton, MI) for shipment to dealerships. Kar Kraft was Ford's private R&D Race Shop where the Boss 429 Mustangs, among other things, were assembled.
If you are missing a Super Cobra Jet from your collection, this is one of the coolest and rarest you could find.
