1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
Classic Car Overview
The Silver Shadow was designed with several modernizations in response to concerns that the company was falling behind in automotive innovation, most notably its unitary construction. Style-wise, the John Polwhele Blatchley design was a major departure from its predecessor, the Silver Cloud. More than 50% of Silver Clouds had been sold on the domestic market where, by the standards of much of Europe and most of North America, roads were narrow and crowded. The new Shadow was 3+1 2 inches (8.9 cm) narrower and 7 inches (18 cm) shorter than the Silver Cloud, but nevertheless managed to offer increased passenger and luggage space thanks to more efficient packaging made possible by unitary construction. Other new features included disc brakes replacing drums, and independent rear suspension instead of the outdated live axle design of previous Rolls-Royce models.
The appeal of the walnut brown exterior is as timelessly elegant as the Rolls-Royce name. It has the right look of originality where you can see that there has been proper care and possibly an investment in maintaining a good shine. This is the one company that has always wanted to deliver the coach-built experience, and so they pay careful attention to the body. Thats why the lines still look terrific today. The angular hood sets your attention to the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot; the rear fenders have a crisply pointed look; and the tan pinstripe is almost like an unbroken line as runs the full profile of the car. Its a total package that reminds you elegance came as standard, right down to the factory wheel covers that have a color-match insert for the paint and pinstriping.
The craftsmanship continues inside. Rolls-Royce has hand-rubbed wood surfaces and individually stitched leather seats from the finest cow hides. Its a true treat to have this so original and preserved 52 year later. Its a testament to both good care of this sedan and how true quality endures. True luxury also means letting someone or something do the work for you. Thats why theres power windows, power locks, and power front seats. The air conditioning is blowing nice and cold, so you always arrive looking comfortable. Plus, this has terrific vintage touches in this well-preserved interior to impress classic car addicts. The rear is also treated to true luxury comfort with supple seating, a fold-down armrest, with plenty of legroom.
The 6.2-liter V8 under the hood is a staple of Rolls-Royce luxury, and we believe it to be original. It hasnt led the life of the daily grind. The motor was engineered to always have power in reserve. In true luxury fashion, its not delivered like a muscle car, but instead more like an express train. This is luxury for trips of all sizes thanks to a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and cruise control. The fully independent suspension glides over rough pavement like a hovercraft, and it stays sure-footed with four-wheel power disc brakes.
The sale comes complete with maintenance records and a full owners manual packet. There is also a huge box full of Rolls-Royce magazines. This beauty wont last long, call us today, 480-256-1459.
