Classic Car Overview
This 1970 Pontiac GTO hardtop coupe was initially delivered to Hyman Bros. Pontiac of Richmond, Virginia, and purchased by my father in 1992 before undergoing restoration. Finished in green over color- coordinated vinyl upholstery, the car is powered by a 400ci V8 linked with a four-speed M20 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Equipment includes a four-barrel carburetor, an Endura front bumper, PMD 15 Rallye II wheels, and power steering, while the cabin is outfitted with a Hurst shifter, a push-button AM radio, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. I inherited the GTO from my father in 2015 and garage stored since.
Finished from the factory in Pepper Green (48), the body was repainted in 1997 after the Cordova vinyl roof was removed and body panels were repaired. Exterior details include an Endura front bumper, simulated dual hood scoops, a chrome rear bumper and rocker panel trim, and polished quad exhaust outlets. The reverse lights do not function.
PMD 15 Rallye II wheels are mounted with 245/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, and a spare is housed in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by unassisted drums at all four corners. I replaced the brake shoes, lines, and wheel cylinders during my ownership. The front bucket seats and a rear bench are trimmed in green vinyl with textured inserts, while woodgrain trim accents the dashboard.
Appointments include a Hurst shifter, a push-button AM radio, and a rear window defogger. The wood-rimmed sport steering wheel fronts a central 140-mph speedometer flanked by a tachometer and a combination gauge with additional readouts. The fuel level gauge is inaccurate. The five-digit odometer shows 98k miles.
The 400ci V8 was overhauled in 1993 with a replacement engine block on which peeling blue finish is visible. It is equipped with a Holley four-barrel carburetor and chrome valve covers. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed M20 manual transmission and a Safe-T-Track limited-slip differential.
A reproduction window sticker lists initial delivery to Hyman Bros Pontiac of Richmond, Virginia, along with factory colors, options, and a total amount of $4,159. The owners manuals and a build sheet are also included in the sale. The Virginia title carries an Exceeds odometer brand.
