A major plus for collectors is the presence of the hidden VIN stamping on the core support, not all Superbirds got that #. The original fender tag remains in place, further supporting the cars authenticity. The hood insulation is installed, and the compartment has been detailed with factory style assembly line markings and inspection stamps throughout.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk is exceptionally clean, complete, and detailed throughout. Under the trunk lid, in the jamb, and inside the trunk, everything is finished in body color B5 Blue. It features a reproduction trunk mat, correct decals, and a fresh weatherstrip. One detail many Superbirds are missing is the complete jack setup, but this one has both original style jacks in place. Because the Superbird has a chrome rear bumper but no front bumper due to the aerodynamic nose cone, it was equipped with both a bumper jack and a scissors jack from the factory. Adding to its authenticity, the trunk contains the proper blue painted spare wheel wrapped with a reproduction Goodyear tire, along with the complete jack assembly. The metal wing support braces are also present. It also retains its hidden VIN under the weatherstrip.

UNDERSIDE: It is solid, clean, and well sorted. The floors, frame rails, and structural components are in excellent condition, with the floors neatly coated in factory style undercoating. The steering and suspension systems have been thoroughly inspected and sorted, making it ready to be enjoyed on the road. The brake system features front disc brakes and rear drums, and the emergency brake assembly is properly hooked up and functional. The exhaust system has been restored with a factory style reproduction setup, including the crossover pipe, correct mufflers, and chrome exhaust tips. The fuel tank has been replaced, and gas shocks have been added for improved ride quality. Looking up at the engine, it is exceptionally clean and has correct casting code. It has been upgraded with a high torque starter for dependable operation. Backing the 440 is its VIN-matching original 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, which sends power to the 8 -inch rear end.

SUPERBIRD STORY: In 1969 the Dodge Daytona was built to win NASCAR races. The engineers at Mopar squeezed all the horsepower they could out of their cars, so they called in a rocket scientist to increase speed with aerodynamics. Every bend, curve and arch served a purpose. It wasnt for show, it was to win races and that is what it did. It was the first car to ever exceed 200 mph on a closed-circuit track. Over at Plymouth their star NASCAR driver, Richard Petty, was handicapped by the limitations of the Road Runner so he jumped ship and went to Ford. In 1970 it was Plymouth that would carry on the Winged Warrior program with the Superbird. It was an attempt to lure back Petty and win races, both were achieved. As a matter of fact, it won so many races it caused its own demise. The top speeds these cars were achieving caused NASCAR to change their rules which brought a quick end to the Winged Warriors. NASCAR regulations said the manufacturers had to offer whatever they were racing as a production car to the public. Each one was hand assembled at a remote location. They were rather obnoxious looking and impractical as an everyday car so they collected dust at the dealer showrooms, some dealers went as far as to remove the nose and wing. Today they are considered the holy grail of muscle cars!
