Classic Car Overview

INTRODUCTION: Only 1,935 Superbirds were ever built and this one sits firmly in the top tier of desirability. Its 1 of just 665 factory 6-Barrel cars and even more sought-after with its automatic transmission in the console between bucket seats. The color combination is a knockout: Lemon Twist Yellow paired with an especially desirable white interior. This Superbird is exceptionally documented. It comes with Galen Govier decoding of the original fender tag, the original build sheet, NASCAR registry listing, reproduction window sticker, restoration receipts, and before-and-during restoration photos. It retains its original metal, nose, and spoiler, and the motor and transmission are correct along with numerous other components. Ground up restored in 2002 and carefully cared for since! SUPERBIRD STORY: In 1969 the Dodge Daytona was built to win NASCAR races. The engineers at Mopar squeezed all the horsepower they could out of their cars, so they called in a rocket scientist to increase speed with aerodynamics. Every bend, curve and arch served a purpose. It wasnt for show, it was to win races and that is what it did. It was the first car to ever exceed 200 mph on a closed-circuit track. Over at Plymouth their star NASCAR driver, Richard Petty, was handicapped by the limitations of the Road Runner so he jumped ship and went to Ford. In 1970 it was Plymouth that would carry on the Winged Warrior program with the Superbird. It was an attempt to lure back Petty and win races, both were achieved. As a matter of fact, it won so many races it caused its own demise. The top speeds these cars were achieving caused NASCAR to change their rules which brought a quick end to the Winged Warriors. NASCAR regulations said the manufacturers had to offer whatever they were racing as a production car to the public. Each one was hand assembled at a remote location. They were rather obnoxious looking and impractical as an everyday car so they collected dust at the dealer showrooms, some dealers went as far as to remove the nose and wing. Today they are considered the holy grail of muscle cars! EXTERIOR: One of the wildest looking production cars of all time! The aerodynamic package included the nose cone with flip up headlights and a chin spoiler, racing hood pins, scoops on top of the front fenders, windshield pillar covers, a flush mount rear window and of course the tallest wing put on a production car. This one was taken down to a bare shell and beautifully restored. It lived out west and still has its original body panels, even the metal nose and wing are original to this car. It is straight, fits properly and doesnt have any rust or damage showing 20 years after it was painted! 2 stage repaint in its factory High Impact color- Lemon Twist Yellow which has a polished glossy finish and the bold decals were correctly reapplied. The stainless was polished and the chrome redone. It features a remote mirror and matched passenger mirror. The vinyl top is in excellent shape, they all had vinyl tops to cover the body work for the rear window conversion. Right now its on a set of reproduction 15 inch Rallye wheels wearing BFG tires, also included is are the original 14 inch Rallye wheels with the correct codes and they are wearing reproduction Good Year Polyglass tires. INTERIOR: Very desirable factory bucket seat white interior! It is in excellent, unabused condition. The dash area is exceptionally clean and correct from the factory gauges including a tachometer to the original AM radio. The steering wheel is mint, glovebox liner is new, dash pad is excellent. The white seats and door panels look great. The headliner was replaced professionally, the original console is very nice, interior lights all work, the original seat belts are complete. Overall very nice fitting, tidy interior. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine bay was prepped and painted very nicely,at the heart of it is the 440 with 6 barrel carbs making 390 hp! It is a period correct block with original carbs, distributor, and manifolds. The motor was completely rebuilt, bored 30 over, has 6-pack rods, Mopar purple cam, a performance valve job with oversized valves, etc. It is restored and detailed to factory specs with correct plug wires, hoses, clamps and decals, it even has a reproduction battery. There are many other items that are correct like the radiator, fan spacer, firewall components etc. The squirters are hooked up, it has hood insulation, the beep beep horn and original fender tag that was decoded by Galen Govier. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is exceptionally clean and complete in here too, it even has its original trunk floor! Everything is painted yellow and the stickers under the trunk lid includes both jacking instructions. Superbirds come with 2 jacks- a bumper jack for in back and the scissors jack for in front. The spare is a Polyglass tire on a painted rim and the mat was replaced. UNDERSIDE: The steering and suspension was pulled from the car and completely rebuilt and detailed to factory specs. The brake system was rebuilt as well with discs in front and a complete e-brake assembly. The fuel system was replaced including the tank. It has a reproduction exhaust system with crossover pipe and the correct turned down tailpipes. Looking up at the motor it still looks fresh and has the correct fuel pump and starter. It has a correct 727 Torqueflite automatic rebuilt trans. It has the performance axle package and its original 8 3/4 rear end with 3.55 Sure Grip gears. The floors and frame rails are solid original metal and the original undercoat was freshened up. SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and reputation. Therefore, we built a 2 million dollar, 10,000 square ft service center, and hired a team of technicians to service the essentials on every car we sell. CONCLUSION: Whether its for your collection or to hit the shows and ice cream parlors, you will be noticed! Not to mention it is an investment and this one is legit, documented and has highly desirable features. Ive not seen them go anywhere but up! Vehicles are displayed in a museum setting. Admission applies without an appointment and is refunded with purchase, including a one-year museum membership. 815 385 3644 9-5 central Sales@volocars.com Answered ASAP 6-pack carbs 3.55 Sure Grip Power disc brakes Power steering Bucket seats Console Nose cone Pop up headlamps Tall spoiler Rally wheels Both jacks Build sheet Galen Govier decoded
